The four men las! night succeeded in making then way through seven steel and barred doors of the ‘‘bard-boiled” cell house. They set fire to the mattresses in their cells and were taken upstairs and lined against the bars as punishment. Guard Captain Frank Wehmeyer walked along on the other side of tile bars, and one of the convicts thrust an . improvised knife into his. ribs demanding bis guh and keys. With these in their possession, the prisoners disarmed two other guards and unlocked the seven steel and barred doors, being stopped., only when they reached a high wire barricade surrounding ha-Il; official name of the hard-boiled “cell house.”
