VE.VH AGREEMENT. Indianapolis, Eel). 27—The truant Hoosier state democratic senators came home todayCold and shivering-, they piled oat of the hus which brought them hack from their voluntary exile in Dayton, 0-, at 1:15 this
morning.
Senator Walter Chambers, of Newcastle, spoke for the bolting soions and announced that a satisfactory agreement had been reached with republican leaders on the Penrod gerrymandering hill and “other disputed points.” The treaty of peace under which the democrats agreed to come back to Indiana was understood to include two points: 1— The Penrod gerrymandering hdll will not be pressed by ijfepublican leaders during the remainder of the session. 2— The strikers will be granted a

Second and Third congressional
I districts.
Several caucuses were held by the j wandering Democrats Thursday afternoon. The last one began at 5:30 ‘o’clock and lasted until 7 o’clock.. Telegrams and telephone calls between Indianapolis and Dayton were numerous. Most of the telegrams were addressed to Senators Cravens, Harmon, Crosby and Easton. At *the end of the early evening caucus, the strikers admitted that a basis of agreement had been reached with Republicans at Indianapolis, and that their departure for the Indiana eapitol would be a matter of only a few hours. They expect to return in the motor hus which Senator Cravens chartered at Indianapolis, Wednesday for the trip into Ohio.

Indianapolis, Feb. 27.—Lieutenant Governor Van Orman and Senator James J. Neidl, majority floor leader. announced Thursday night after telephonic communication with two of the truant Democratic senators a i Dayton, O., that negotiations had been completed for the return of the fifteen strikers and they will be at their desks in the Sen" f ^ at 10 < clock this morning. This will re ( tahlif h a quorum in the Senate ■ hich ' s been broken for two days and business . of the session wil; o antin'ny The L al anne”'->•**"' nt was made by I imitenant Gove"»or Van Unman at comoleticn several .1 * hone with SenJ&or Joseph M. Cravens 'of Madison, Democratic floor leader and spokesman for the striking senators and Senator Harvey Harmon of Princeton, another of the bolters. Confers With Governor Prior to making the formal announcement that the business of the Senate will be continued as usual today, Lieutenant Governor Van Orman was in conference with Cover nor Jackson over tTie telephone. Lieutenant Governor Van Orman, who had been confined to his bed with influenza two days, did not appear at the Statehouse until yesterday afternoon. Immediately he took up the matter of the strike. After leaving the Senate chamber he and Senator Nejdl started the conferences which resulted in ending the
strike.
Lieutenant Governor Van Orman was asked whether he had given any assurancesto the strikers that if they returned the Penrod bill, the ostensible cause of* the bolt, would
he withdrawn or held up. Discusses Offending Bill
“There was no agreement about the Penrod bill, Lieutenant Cover- :
t
nor Van Orman declared. “No guarantee was given to the Democratic senators, that any definite action 1 would be taken relative to the Pen- j rod bill. Senator Cravans did ask if there had been any Republican can- j cus on the Penrod measure, and I told him. that so far as I knew there j was none. I called Senator Nejdl to ask if there was any caucus on the j bill during my illness and he said there was not. This was the only , reference to the Penrod measure.” | It was understood that the Demo- j cratie strikers desired to return to ; their duty in the upper House and j that their chief concern before re- j turning to Hoosier soil was that j they would be given a guarantee ol I immunity from arrest for breaking 1 the quorum. |
