that a nurse, who has since resigned, had been reprimanded for failure to obey instructions of the commission. That job gets farther away every week, doesn’t it “Dr.” Deming? A queer thing about these probes, investigation, etc., ordered by the Big Mouth, is that he is always out of town when the work starts- Why is j this thus? Does he think he can ' start a rumor and make it stick? No chance for that—the people know him
too well.

ONE BABY DOWN. Even the klansmen in the legislature are balking on the klan “educational and Americanization” program. The senate Wednesday killed a bill introduced by Sims, kluxer, of Terre Haute, making it unlawful for teachers in the public schools to wear any sort of a religious emblem. It was aimed at the Catholic church and was incubated in klan headquarters. The bill was defeated by a vote of 40 to 6. The entire program of Wizard Evans and Dragon Bossert will go down in defeat if the % friends of liberty remain awake, and on the job. THEY ARE ALL RIGHT. Now will you quit hollerin’ about the police? Just because you see them, <Iay in and day out, wandering around the streets, doing nothing, apparently, you have gathered the idea, probably, that policemen are merely unnecessary
ornaments.
The celebrated all women grand jury had that idea and went out of their way to insult the boys who are ready to risk their lives in defense of the citizens of Muncie. Puckett, Brownie, Collins and Goodpaster, all honor to their courage, Sunday caught the most desperate criminal in America. No matter what the six women grand jurors, and the one who wrote that report, may think of these brave officers, they are being praised by thoughtful citizens all over the country. And Sheriff Hoffman, forsooth, was pointed out by the grand jury as the one truly good officer in Muncie. Where was Hoffman when Chapman struck town and what would have been the result if he had gone up against the gun, as did Puckett and his aids?
removed Safety Directqr Sherburne. He was well within his rights when he accused Sherburne of taking for his own use a lot of liquor that had been seized by police. He made this charge in a city newspaper, and Sherburne promptly sued him for libel naming his dam-
ages at $10,000.
No sane person in Newark has any doubt that Sherburne was wrongly accused. Newark people have known Ned Sherburne long enough to know that there isn’t a dishonest drop of blood in his veins. The fact that ‘‘Windy’’ waited a year before filing his reply indicates that he thought the libel suit was a bluff. But the contrary is the case. Sherburne is very
much in earnest. o

OF SALE OF BONDS.

Having made such a remarkable success in starting and running one official democratic newspaper, the republican county organization has started another.
Being the sheriff, it would be highly improper, and wholly unethical, of course, for the grand jury to embarass him by inquiring into the circumstance of his running over an old woman and sending her to the hospital with numerous broken bones.
Now that an ungrateful and unappreciative republic has decided to select someone else for United States District Attorney, all those people who rushed to the front to congratulate Van Ogle may now, at their leisure, skin it back. They were too durn previous. And, by the way, the Press, which mentioned the congratulatory stampede, forgot to mention whether the joy nnconfined was occasioned by the prospect of Van’s elevation or by the probability of his departure from Muncie.
Notice is hereby given that the undersigned trustee of Center Township and ex-officio trustee of Center School Township Delaware County. State of Indiana, at the office of said trustee, Room 302 Western Reserve Bldg, in said City of Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, at the hour of 1:30 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the»25th day of February. 1925. will offer for sale an issue of Thirty Thousand ($30,000.00) Dollars of the bonds of Center School Township, Delaware County, Indiana. The Ku Klux Klan is lobbying in Indianapolis for its so-called “educational program.” We know of no other organization on earth that is as sadly In need of an educational program as the Ku Klux Klan.
The klan motto is “Not ^or Self, but for Others.” We have observed the application of this principle in Muncie for some time, especially as it applies to the enforcement of the liquor law.
And now the klan has introduced a bill making it compulsory to read the Bible in the public schools. Why not experiment first by reading a few chapters every morning to the legislature? It would all be news to the majority of the kluck legislators who are mouthing about this hill.
HUNaE POLICE
(Continued From Page 1.) but very few miles and the mileage meter on the machine found showed it had been driven more than 600 miles. It carried Ohio license plates No. 88-492. Both the serial number md the motor number have been mutiliated. Officer Burr said the condition of the frame, where the serial number was, showed every indication that the iron had been heated very intensely and the original numbers battered out. New numbers were placed on the frame. The same condition existed on the motor, where the number is placed, Mr. Burr said. By means of a certain heating process the motor number can be brought to the surface again, the authorities said, and this will be done todaySTILL WONDERING
(Continued from Page One^ calls the ‘‘dirty deal’’ handed him by ‘‘Windy” Stevens. Although such action was unnecescary, council endorsed the appointment of a boxing commission for this city. The mayor had all au-
more men and hoys than any other man in Newark, and is as popular as he is well known. He would have made an ideal man to head this commission and was led to believe that he would he offered the appointment. Here is where the Klan butted in. The boxing commjissioni can, if it wants to, acquire quite a nice bit of change in licensing various bouts, and that kind of a job under the present administration belongs to a
Klanarchist.
Therefore, this potentially profitable position goes to Flether S- Scott, Klan lawyer!, whose experience in divorce and collection cases will help him materially In running the com-
mission.
Fletcher S. also had some experience as a left fielder for Cap. Hayes' alleged hall players some years ago. Also had some experience as manager or janitor or something for the Howell packing Co. This experience will no doubt he a valuable asset In his new position. Other members of the commission are Dr. Shirer, who says he is a Klanarchist and proud of it, and JeSse Strand, you know Jess.
