THE PEACEFUL KLAN Whenever a klansman is caught in trouble he is found to be armed. At Lilly, Penn., a train load of klansmen from Johnstown descended upon the town and tried to make the people of that community, who are against the klan, submit to the invasion of a masked mob of outsiders. Somebody very properly turned the hose on the invading host and an automatic, spitting death, leaped from beneath the folds of every dirty nightshirt of the invading host of men who stand for “law and order” and “one hundred per cent Americanism.” Men fell dead in their tracks and many were taken to hospitals, desperately injured. The armed klansmen boarded their specif train and steamed away. Some escaped from the train before it reached Johnstown, but upon its arrival officers searched the klansmen and found nearly one hundred revolvers in their possession. These men, belonging to an order which boasts of its God given mission to kave America from lawlessnness, deliberately armed themselves before starting on their trip to a neighboring city. They had murder in their hearts. What kind of an order is it anyway, that requires its members to carry firearms, which is in itself a distinct violation of the law, which the klan hypocritically pretends to uphold ? On the night of June 2,1923, a klan parade was held in Muncie. Armed thugs from Indianapolis, Elwood and other cities participated in the parade and scored of citizens who refused to remove their hats to the lawless demonstration were brutally beaten and had their hats knocked off by the masked outlaws. In no instance did the bystanders offer insult to the masked paraders. The latter went out of their way in every instance to offer insult and to assault men who w r ere exercising their rights as citizens to be abroad on the
streets.
t doubt if a concerted resistance had been made by the citizens who were.attacked the klan would have begun to shoot, as they did in Lilly, Penn. When the klan discards its masks, its six shooters and its many hates, it may then begin to talk about its great American mission. . The Munde Press declares that although no democrat has filed in Delaware county for treasurer, people will have to keep on paying taxes just the same as ever. Right you are, Bo. As long as there is a Delaware county Republican with enough animation left to sign his name to a nominating petition the people will keep on paying taxes, and plenty, of 'em. A DUTY, NOT A PLEASURE. The Post-Democrat does not enjoy publishing such matters as the Snyder affair. Mrs. Minnie Snyder is a i good woman, who has unwittingly become a part of the | rottenest and most corrupt political ring in the state of i Indiana. . I We have been threatened and entreated in this matter. Threatened with death and prosecution if the story were printed, and entreated to think of the pain and humiliation it w'Guld cause innocent people, if published. But this is not a personal matter. It goe^ to the very vitals o/ the juvenile and probation offices, which are now being hypocritically promoted at public meetings for selfish, political purposes. ) There are many persons in jail now for infractions of | the juvenile lav/s and these persons and their families no ' doubt feel deeply the humiliation caused by the attendant | publicity. The constitution does not say that a klansman shall be ’mmune from arrest and unpleasant publicity. It-says , all men are created free and equal, with special privileges
to none.
The political machine with which a good woman has aligned herself has no mercy in dealing with its enemies. It never thought of any suffering on the part of my wife and seven children when I was arrested on a false liquor charge and when I was thrown in jail and sent to the penal farm for “contempt” of Judge Dearth's court. It merely gloated. Thousands of words were printed in the two local re-publican-klux-controlled daily newspapers, concerning my numerous indictments and arrests, and every article was colored to give out the idea that I was,a hardened and abandoned criminal. It did not occur that these things might cause “innocent people to suffer” nor was any compunction shown when my nineteen-year-old son was arrested on- a minor charge and the story “played up” without pointing out any of the palliating features, of which there were many. I wish to repeat again that I do not fear the threats made by criminals and as I have committed no crimes, threats of prosecution will not deter me from doing my duty to this community. . The people of Delaware county are getting sick of seeing Judge Dearth blatting around among a lot of sob sisters and sissy men with his everlasting slush about the

Fort Wayne, April 18.—The primary campaign in Fort Wayne is reaching fever heat and the voters want to know how the candidates of both parties stack up on the klan question. Naturally the local daily newspapers fight shy on that partic-
ular angle.
The Post-Democrat expects to tell the people here what candidates belong to the klan as well as those who do not. This is a democratic newspaper. but it will oppose any democratic candidate who belongs to the klan and will support any republican anti-klux candidate who is opposed at the polls next fall by a
klansman democrat. Our investigator finds that Frank R. Dulin, who seeks the democrat nomination for judge Of Alien county, is a man who has not diverted or misinterpreted the constitution of the state and nation, which guarantees equal rights to all citizens. Mr. Dulin is a law graduate of Indi ana University and having practiced in the courts of Allen county for twenty-one years, has failed to find anything in the statutes which classifies as “aliens” Catholics, Jews natur alized citizens of foreign birth and native born, white protestant gentiles
