flag.

Judge Dearth owes his election to the Ku Klux klan, of which he was made a member without having to go through the formality of paying a ten dollar initiation fee. The klan grafters are smooth. The kleagles are instructed to rope in judges, sheriffs, prosecutors, mayors and chiefs of police. The klan needs the influence and active support of powerful public officials and headquarters at Atlanta invariably sent out the instruction' to “dead head” all such officials into the klan. Tne kleagles are instructed that by taking in powerful public officials free of charge they will not only have the “law” on their side when it might be needed, but that the fact that such prominent men become members will cause hundreds to come in who will be willing to pay for the privilege. Sheriff Hoffman is another by-product of the Ku Klux Klan, who went in on a free pass, as did Prosecutor Van Ogle and Chief of Police Van Benbow, Police Captains Coons and Jones and several others whose influence and help might be needed by the anglers who fished so profitably in Delaware county and caught paying suckers by the thousands. Mayor Quick, the head of the city administration, was taken into the klan without paying a dime. Those who solicited him to join made it plain that he was to have all the privileges of membership without any expense to himself, because of his importance as a public official, and the assistance he would be in a position to give the klan in its modest ambition to take over the government of the city and county. For this we have the personal word of Mayor Quick, who stayed in the klan about 30 minutes and then got out and roundly denounced it as being a law-breaking, un-American institution with which no well intention^d person should think of affilating. Judge Dearth made his free membership immensely profitable. It got him a job at $4,200 a year. Not satisfied with the salary, he attempted to have it raised to $6,000. He failed in this but by indirection he is getting a large portion of the eighteen hundred increase asked. He lately created in the juvenile department a new position, that of assistant probation officer, and gave the job to his own wife, wffio is drawing four dollars a day and expenses from the county, making a total of $5,400 extracted yearly from the county exchequer by the Dearths. Sheriff Hoffman, who would have been defeated easily but for the assistance of the paying members of the klan, is making more money than any other sheriff in the history of Delaware county. The jail is kept constantly filled with persons against whom trivial charges are filed and his profits from feeding these unfortunates, in addition to his salary and innumerable other fees makes his office immensely^ profitable. In addition to this it is a matter commonly known that Hoffman is secretly in partnership with Claude Hines, a road contractor, who is treated tenderly and considerately by the Klucker county commissioners. Billy Williams, late republican county chairman, is another klansman who cashed in without the ten dollar ante. Billy got the postoffice department on recommendations of Klucker Congressman Albert Vestal, who was recently made a dead head member of the Washington, D. C., klan. By the way there are many congressmen, senators and men high in public life at Washington who belong to this rotten and un-American conspiracy, yet not one of them ever paid a cent to join. It is left to the men who work in the mills and factories and farmers who ought to know better to supplythe cash while the big grafters and the big politicians get the cream and leave the skim milk for the suckers. The man who can least afford to pay are the ones who put up all the money. t Another election is coming on and a flock of kiansmen are out after the federal, state and county offices. It is probably expecting too much, but we sincerely hope that the suckers will get wise this time and will refuse to put these mercenaries in office. We recall sadly how we were scoffed at when the Post-Dem-ocrat, in its v«ry first issue, warned the people of Muncie against “seventy-five-percent-a-month Holaday,” who is now doing four ^years in Leavenworth for stealing about a million dollars by

Hooded Hoodlums of Michigan City are To Hold Klonklave

Koo Koo Convention Will

Give City a Backset That Will Last Some Time.

(By Staff Correspondent.)

Michigan City, Ind., March 6.—The lawless element of Michigan City are making great preparations for the Klonklave of Hooded Hoodlums, commonly known as the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The members who are In the State prison will not be given liberty to attend the convention At least, this is one form of

constituted authority that twill be adheied to by the goofy guardians of

other people’s business.

As was predicted in previous issues of this paper, the high pitch organizers of the Klan would run out of American horn suckers, and would rtsort to other methods of obtaining

money in some manner.

Our investigator has discovered the means by which these Knights of Korruption are acquiring easy money They have founded a subsidiary organisation, called the Royal Riders of the Red Robe, in which foreign born are desirable and eligible. This subsidiary hate clufc is a bastard brother of the Klan. Don’t think this a nightmare or a bogy, for it is the truth and nothing but the truth. These Koo Koo boys are great

for getting the dough.

of pure womanhood. Of course, in this case, Riley has not violated any of the Klan virtues, as this old hate club never mentions about besmirching the virginal chastity of an inno-

cent young girl.

Riley is a paid up member of Peru Klan No. 83, the same Klavern To which Avery Tudor belongs. Tudor is manager of the Peru Mercantile Company. Oh, yes. we have mentioned Tudor’s name before, however, wo have never seen it in this c mi ection. Riley and Tudor are devoted members of the Peru Klavern. When this Knight Riley, without douMie. or sword, or ev m a horse f.onj the Wabash Valley Ilorsethief Association, carried away the innocent joung girl, he employed a brother l-.iansman to aid him in his hellish purpose. We mean o - e of the Brittons from Britton’s Ku Klux

Garage.

Mrs. Ed Higgins, Sr., is slated to be e.ected the next president of the women Koo Koo’s of Miami county. Of course, the Kluxerinos don’t refer to this office as president, but some meaningless name that no one but a tongue tied and hare lip could pronounce- However, suca silly rot is appealing to these short thumbs with little space between the eyes. The thing that enters most vitally into electing Mrs. Higgins president of the hate club, is that this Kluxerino resides in a Catholic neighbordood, where she will be able to learn to the minutest detail what the Pope is doing daily, and all about the big French 75’s guns that are placed in the basements of the various Catholic churches. Some of these ffiiot Koo Koo’s believe such fairy tales. Of course, with such mentalities we need never worry for pushers of dung

carts for our city streets.

Cook believes that he writes a diplomatic answer to all inquiries, however, anyone with the least spark of intelligence can read between the lines. In one of our former issues, we ifiSue a iTiistaiie rciuurc to the occupation of a Huntington citizen. We are taking this opportunity to rectify same. We stated that Charles Rainey was a Ku Klux Klansman, carpenter and ex-gambler. Rainey not only belongs to the organization that would nullify the fourteenth and fifteenth Amendments but also violates the eighteenth amendment at every available oppor-

tunity.

It was this goof who led the motly crew of vagrants—without their dunce caps and* cheese cloth nig;hties —that stormed the City Hall, the night the anti-mask ordinance was voted on. Rainey is the type that is worrying his 5 3-4 brain to almost nervous exhaustion about our school system and the protection of

womenhood.

The next night orders were posted in klan headquarters that every man should report promptly at 6:45 p. m. to go In a bunch out to this farm and be prepared to defend themselves In case of a riot. “I was asked to go on this party and many others just like it, but declined because I know where such things would end.
