EDITOR. TEIDAY MOENIXO. JAN. 7, 1859. Hat. B. F. Horn' lectur. Oar correspondent " Cho Autocrat of th back scat" in bis anxiety to indulge la criticism, has evidently done injustice to, the Iccturo of the llcv. B.J Morris, delivered at tho Coline Chapel, in tbis place on "Wednesday evening the JKnd of December last. The lecture m5gh$ possibly contain the same "sachrine matter" if "boiled down" to two thirds its length a9 delivered, but in reducing into brcrity, it would necessarily loose its elaboration, so very important to tho subject discussed. That tb "Autocrat" has missed the mark, ras incontcstably demonstrated by the Interested attention given lor an hour and a half, so marked that a movement in the large audience could scarcely be observed. Tho subject "A True Christian Nationality" was well chosen elaborately discussed and admirably delivered. It 'would b gi oss injustice to tho accom ylishcd lecturer, in this brief notico to attempt a description of the many id rariod argumontsby which ho illumrti ted tho importance and effect on both .the) people and government of a tho- . rough and 'True Christian Nationality.'! Ik was however enforced in an argument brilliantand conclusive, interspersed with bright pictures and glowing descriptions. Printing: Bills. If the editor of tho Democrat will put the question to us, how it happened that our bill of advertising amounted to ,'mor than that presented by Mr. Uontly for the srne work, instead of interrogating us under the garb of a correspondent, -wo think wo tan answer him to bis entire satisfaction, lu-well as to the satisfaction of the public. Wo charged no more than our uual rates, which will be seen by reference to our printed 'prices at tho hcaa cf our columns. II ' "Ur." Bentlcy, in this instance, has seen .proper to reduce a bill for similar work - we are irapoücd by. tho evidences on tho records of former charges, to con elude it was done for the express pur - pose which it was HUd, that of n public array or a contrast or the tills The charge, that there nre other aimtut mtim iu uviuuiiuuii uiv rccurus, t n . . . Heeting of the Agricultural Board. This body met on last Saturday, and transacted tho usual amount of busi. tie for tho closing up of tho year, and ... . t i i? . . wuuoui uisscnung voice, auoptca, ns wo believe, tho only plan to raise money to liquidate tho indebtedness of the Hociefy, hieb, as ws understand was this : The Treasurer was authorized to issue certfflVateaof stock, ten dollars each, which will 'cntitit tho holder to his annasi membership, and a family ticket of admission to tho annual exhibition, the Society reserving the riht to redesm in tho futuro by paying back to the holder ten dollars, the lace of the certificate, which is virtually paying ten per cont interest for tho use of tho money. Every farmer interested in ngricnlturoand.tho future prosperity of tho society, can readily afford to loan tho institution ten dollars, at a rato of interest that cannot be easily obtained in regular transactions of trado, and at the samo timo bo rs safe as if it were in tbeir pockets. If tho institution should go down, tbo real estate isbound flsr the redemption of the certificates. Then we say to any and every per son who may havo ten dollars to invest , safely and profitably in ft goo4 cause, to call on tho Treasurer. J. Tynor Etxj., and bay a certificate. Mrs. Carrie D. Tilxins Bush. The lady of Dr. Bush, editor of the

Eloomington republican, visited our town during last week and received the following notice from the gallant edi tor and publisher of tho Democrat: "Mrs. Carrio D. Jilkins Bush, n lady Temperance lecturer, has been Bojourninz in our placo for several days, solic iting subscription for a Temperanco :aper at Indianapolis. Better stay at lome, Mrs! Bush, and take care of, the rabies, if ybji have an and if 'not, borrow one but stay at home." Mrs. Bush is tho Editress of tho Ol ive Branch, a Temperanco paper published at Indianapolis, and was hero in tho pursuit of legitimate and proper business appertaining to her profession. It U cortainly proper for the publisher of tho Democrat to visit Indianapolis or any other town, to solicitbubscribers for his paper, and we think equally so, for Mrs. Bush to visit our town for the samo purpose. We uro not of thoso who think that women aro to be confin ed to the exclnsivo business of cooking and mending, but approve of their em barking in any honorable btuines.s to which their genius may fit them. Tho printing offices of our land acknowl edge the superiority of femalo compoki. itors, then why not femalo publishers and editors, and if the latter, why not solicitors lor subscribers ? Wo re garded the attack of onr neighbor as ungallant and unwarranted, as the reputation of Mrs. Bush and her deportment whilo hero deterved a different and oioro gentlemanly treatment. Circuit Court Jurors. -We aro indebted to W. A. J. Glidewell Enq., Sheriff of Franklin County for tho following !it of Grand and Fotit Jurors for tho February term of the Franklin County Circuit Court, to wit: Grand Juuori James Logan, of Kai r field township; Charles Marlin, ot Suit Creek; Isaac Bcrsley, of Whilo Water; Itichard Sunman, of Butler; Hiram George, of Bay; Gcorgo ilcXutt, of Springfield; John llacklemnn, of Brookville; Emanuel Withers, cf Highland; John J. Boss, Jlenry Secrest, Jacob Bly, l'obert II. Jcnks, Frantz Grimme, Albert Miler, Lewis Walter, Speuoer E.Brooks, and David O.Allen. For the benefit of thoso who aro not advined of tho manner in which Juries aro selected, wo will Bay that it is done in complianco with the 4th chapter of tho Bcviscd Statutes of 1852, of tho State of Indiana, vol 2. Sec 2. of said chapter, reads as follows: The board of commissioners of each eounty at their firt recular session in each year bhall select from tho tax duplicate of the preceding year, tho names of i.xty persons having tho reqtisito qalihcations which hhall bo written on separate ballots and ldaced in a box prepared for that purpose Sue. 3. The names no selected frhnl' be divided equally ns nearly as possible among tho several townships of the county. Ksc. 4. A panel of Grand Jurors shall bo separately selected at the niuio time and m tge same manner for ri ch term of tho circuit court to bo filled in ono year, but tho sum) person tdiall not bo selected for any two terms in the same year. The Petit Jury r tho circuit court is selected according to tho provisions of chapter 9. vol. 2. U.K., the purport of which is, that, tho Auditor, Treasurer and Bceorder of cad; county, shall on tho sixth 3Ionday be furo tho commencement of any term of the circuit court, write, on scparato ballots, tho names of ono hundred good rcputablo houso holders of tho county, competent to servo as said Jurors, to bo divided among the different townships as nearly equal ns may bo in proportion to their population, and deposit them in a box, hich aro drawn by tho clerk in tho prcsenco of the aforcnaid county ofiicors in tho samo manner of tho Grund Jury, except that they aro drawn without respect to townships. Tho Petit Jury lor the Common rioas Court, which is tho only Jury provided for by law for that court, Is drawn in every respect similar to the Petit Jury of tho circuit court, but on the fourth Monday beforo tho commencement of each term. From our acquaintance with the persons comprising the abovo named Juries, wo are inclined to to tho opinion that justico to both, thoso who are seeking and fearing, it will bo fairly and 6quarely mectcd out. W It is said that as Hon. Win. L. Dayton positivey declines being a candidal for tho United States Senate, in Now Jorsy, Hon. Wo woro enabled to announco in a portion of tho edition of our last paper that the Lczislaturo bad elected two United States Senators in tho placo of Bright and Fitch, who now illegally hold scats n tho Senate, livery true friend of Indiana will bail this as u tri umph of tho poople over the corruptions of party as a Vindication ot the digni ty of our Stato, and as an evidenco that tho riyht of n froo iteoplo cannot bo o trampled upon with impunity. The people of Indiana and their rep rcsentatives have dono their duty, aud it now remains to bo seen whethor narsizan Senate, under the lash of tho Executive, will sustain Bright and Filch in their scats and trcat with contempt tho will of the-peotlo. qf a sovereign Stato. Tho Lccomptnitcsinquiro what good will this elcctiol do? and answer the question themscKL. by saying that thoScnatoof tho United States alone has power to determine tho qualificrtions of its members to seats. Admit that it has does that prevent it from doing justice aud acting honorably? Our Courts alono havo tho right to determine the fato of a citizen charged with raur dor, but is that any reason that a man ahull bo bung without any proof guilt? But they inquiro again, how are you to open tho caso after it has bcen'onco determined. It has not been finally do cided. True, a committee reported i resolution declaring that Bright and Fitch wero entitled to scats in tho Sen ato, which rcsohU-hi(as pasod, and they bold their seats. But on tho las day of tho last session tho samo Senate passed a resolution "directing its Ju diciary Committco to report at tho next session whether further legislation on tho subject of tho Indiana Sanatoria election caso is neccaj;y. This opened tho caso anew if it had been finally set tied beforo, and when Messrs. Lauo and McCarty go to Washington tho Judi ciary Committco will bo furnished wit the most cogent of reasons why further legislation is necessary. They will car ry with them tho so'orun legislative do claration of ft sovereign Stato that tho rights ofthat Stato havo been usurpe and certificates under tho broad seal o that Stato. demanding, that tho legally oloctod Senators -thalrSako tho placo of those now there without color of law or justico, or tho will of tho people a . . If tha Senato refuses to admit tho new Senators, it may then be said thepcopl of Indiana, like tbo nogrocs in tho cyo of tho Supromo Court, "havo no rights which wbito men havo a right to respect." Wo bopo tho newly elected Sonators will goto Washington to tho capital, and on tho floor of the Senate demand that the voice of Indiana hall bo beard, in acconlanco with its constitution, its laws, and thovoicoof its peoplo legally expressed. We confess that wo havo but very little eonfldenco in the Senato, yet it is no less tho duty of tho pcoplo of tho Stato to demand their rights, and if they fail to procuro them now, our constitution marks out ft way by which justtco can bo obtained, and .tdsVU rough tho ballot box. Tho present Senato and party in power hold placo at tho will of tho people, and to that tribunal an appeal will bo taken in 18C0. Tho powers of no branch of our government are hereditary, and wo requiro no bloody revolution to socuro Justico 'from tho hands ot tho "powers that bo," but at stated times under our constitution this power rovorts back to tho peoplo, and they, wo trust, will ever act with inde
