teTWe have omitted until now, a reference to the Sunday exercises, connected with Brookrille College, on the 20th ult. According to previous appointment Roy. E. IIouso ot Cincinnati, assistant editor of tho "Western Christian Advocate, preached the annual sermon to a very largo, Inteligent and attcntiro
audience. On such occasions, many of our public men make long and laborious efforts, and very often wear out the patience of their auditors. Uut this charge cannot bo laid to Mr. IIouso. He preached only forty-fivo 'minutes extempore- from these words: "Put on Kindness." There was no attempt at displayj he spoke as though he felt the importance of his subject, and tho people listened as they always do, when deeply interested. It was unquestionably a sermon that will do good. In tho afternoon at 3 o'clock, the people nsscmblod nguin, to hoar a lecture from President Chaso, on Moral Education, which was listened to with attention and interest. Wo have neither tho timo nor ability to givo an nnalyws of cither of tho abovo diacourccfl, uflito to nay, both were well timed and well delivered. Mr. House, preached again at night in tho Methodist church, to a largo aulienco. Kot'vithstftiiding tho boat, tho audience gave him their breathless at tention for thirty minutes or more. ThU was Mr. House' firnt visit toflrookville, in an official capacity, but wo venture tho opinion that no man will bo more warmly welcomed, should ho come acitin. Hard ur.It h bad enough to bo beaten for a Congressional Nomination after drilling ones filouds Ibra full delegation, in the cotifidciit vxpectation and a-jstiranee of sitceess, but to font the bill and then bo defeated im uneonscionablo.
