Kindergarten children must meet necessary requirements
Syracuse elementary school principal Robert D. Hamman urges parents of kindergarten age children to make sure they have met all the necessary requirements before school starts in September. In order to qualify for kindergarten classes at Syracuse, a child must be at least five years old on or before September, 1 and he or she must reside within the boundaries of Turkey Creek township. An enrollment form and a medical examination form must be completed for each kindergarten student. The legal birth certificate must be checked by the principal for verification of the birth date and spelling of the child’s name for the school records. Parents who attended kindergarten roundup last spring already completed the enrollment forms, however, there are many who have not returned the medical examination form, and there are some who must bring in the legal birth certificate for verification. All these requirements must be met before a child can enter kindergarten. Parents who did not attend the roundup, but who have children eligible for kindergarten, should contact the school as soon as possible by calling the school after August 14 or by writing to: Syracuse Elementary School, 201 E. Brooklyn St., Syracuse, IN 46567. Parents are urged to complete all the requirements as soon as possible and avoid waiting until the end of summer. The medical examination may take more time than you anticipate. The legal birth certificate must be obtained from the county health department of the county in which the child was born.
