After a thoughtful pause, Willie asked, “Pop, how do you know when you’re through?” Mrs. Thelma Hattersly, Syracuse, is vacationing in Florida.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR McFadden Speaks
Dear Editor: In the months prior to the November 1966 general election, I was the Democratic Congressional nominee for the second district of Indiana.. As I ran for office I frequently struggled with my own conscience and my position on the Viet Nam war. I took the position of supporting, moderately, the President’s stance on the war. It was possible, it seemed to me, to accept the idea that he was doing all that could be done to bring about a reasonable peace. Since that time my position has changed considerably. I no longer feel that the direction we are taking as a nation can bring about that hoped-for peace. Con-

His initiative professional skill, and attention to detail have materially aided his squardon in maintaining its operationally ready status. The distinctive accomplishments of master sgt. Egolf reflect credit upon himself and the United States air force. Sgt. Egolf has flown 35 combat support missions over Viet Nam, for which he has been recommended for the air medal. A 1951 graduate of Atwood high school, he enlisted in the USAF the same year. Presently he is stationed at Dover, Del., where he resides with his wife, Phyllis, and children, Jackie Sue, Debbie and Michael.

tinued escalation, unwillingness to respond to Hanoi’s overtures and the often senseless cruelty thrust on North and South Vietnamese, alike, make it impossible for me to support our involvement there. Which leads me to ask the question, will there really be any choice in November in light of this? I am willing to threw my support behind groups such as the Hoosiers for a Democratic Alternative. And, this seems to be the direction not only for Hoosiers but for most of us as discontented Democrats. Sincerely, Ralph G. MeFaddeir 310 Riverside Circle Ellicott City. Md. 21043
