After a scoreless first quarter Evansville broke through with a pair of touchdowns in each of the list three periods to overpower DePauw’s young Tigers, 39-7, in Saturday night’s opener at Evansville. The host Aces had too much experience for Coach Mike Snavely’s club and capitalized on DePauw mistakes by recovering four fumbles and intercepting three passes. Blessed with a horde of talented backs, Evansville outgained ‘he Bengals both on the ground, 353 yards to 165, and in the air, 120 yards to 53. The game was the first Indiana Collegiate Conference tilt of the season. Halfbaclc Ken Lutterba-ch paced the Aces with 113 yards in 13 carries for an 8.7 average. All-conference Bill Parrish added 71 yards, and brothers Corky and Richie Thompson chipped in 57 and 50 yards, respectively. Brightest spot in the DePauw offense was fullback Skip Mathieson, who carried 11 times for 83 yards and a 7.5 average. Halfback Art Bryant was close behind with 49 yards in seven tries. Evansville finished with 19 first downs to 12 for DePauw but also held a- considerable edge in the penalty department. The Aces were whistled down eight times for 100 yards, and DePauw offended only four times for 20. Lutterback opened the scoring with 4:30 remaining in the second quarter when he plunged over from the three to climax a 75-yard drive. MADISON, Wis.—(UP)—An official of the U. S. Office of Education says some educators are missing a bet by not usin., motion pictures to ease the shortage of teachers. Seerley Reid, chief of the federal agency's visual education branch, said flims could be used for certain routine teaching tasks and take the pressure of* the teachers now in the schoois He noted that some educators oppose use of films for such work and said: “It’s time you did a little soulsearching,” he said; “If the proper films are available, why not let the audio-visual media teach routine aspects of learning? “What we need is a willingness to experiment and erase blocked minds for the betterment of the pupils and the teaching profession.” Reid told some 250 educators at an audio-visual conference at the University of Wisconsin that many teachers quit their job because of the routine and paper work involved.
