At noon, an hour and a half after they had met, the two dictators were still together. They were completely alone, their foreign ministers, Ciano and Joachim von Ribbentrop having retired to another oar. Upon Hitler's arrival, a rod carpet had been lain hastily over the snow for him to walk on to Mussolini’s train. Rows of potted palms were placed along the sides of the carpet and were quickly flecked, incongruously, with snow.

BARBIZON STYLIST WILL BE AT PREVO'S Miss Frances Ponder stylist for the Barbizon Corporation of New York is here on her semi-annual visit to Greencastle and the Prevo store. Miss Ponder is always welcomed by the sales staff and by her many friends here because she has a wealth of information on new fashions in general and new Barbizon fashions in particular. When asked about the new fashions, Miss Ponder
told us:
“Daytime clothes look younger because short, simple skirts always look young. The new bloused waist in dresses, suits, coats, does wonders for the average figure. The bloused effect above the skirt creates an optical illusion of slimness below. Lingerie is enchantingly feminine. Not frail or frothy looking, but cut along appealing lines and trimmed ! with lovely embroidery. Colors are

SMELT QI'KENS ESCANABA, Mich., March 18 Paul Bunyan, the mythical demigod of the north woods, who is credited by the old-time lumberjacks with planting the silvery smelt in Lake Michigan ages ago, will reign ,ri spirit, if not by proxy, at the sixlh annual Escanaba Smelt Jamboree which will be held here April 11 'o
13 ;
The Escanaba Smelt Jamboree is going he-mannish this year. Smelt queens, kings and other foU de-rols of royalty are definitely out, and instead Paul Bunyan and h.s crew* will direct the festivities that will be held at the height of the annual spawning run of the silvery horde of fresh water smelt. The queen’s hall will give way to Paul Bunyan's Brawl this year and the festivities along the hanks of the Ford and Tacoosh rivers will be featured by a gigantic fish fry, at which the mighty Paul's inimitable cook, Sourdough Sam, will prepa.o smelt to feed the populace. A log birling contest in the icy waters of the Tacoosh will be another of the huge list of free attractions. Hundreds of spoilsmen aie expected to come from all over the midwest to dip for smelt during th? spawning runs, which will continue until about April 20. The regular fishing license, good for angling th ■> rest of the year in Michigan, is requited for dipping. Non-residents may procure a 10-day license for one
dollar.
The Escanaba Smelt Jamboree jama colors, and when combined very committee will futnish guides and dashing. Even bridal trousseaux transportation to the dozen or more have a good share of pink and blue smelt streams in the Escanaba arc:* gowns along with traditional white
without charge to visitors. Dipnets will be available for rental at a nominal fee. There is no limit to the number of fish that may be taken. Some fishermen have dipped as much as a ton of smelt alone in one even-
ing.
The jamboree committee again will send smelt to service clubs and sportsmen's organizations in the middle west at the actual cost price.
