Promotion For Edward J. Young EDWARD J. YOUNG
Mr. Edward J. Young, Manager of Administration at the Speedway Laboratories, Linde Division of Union Carbide Corporation, has been appointed Controller of the Korad Corporation which is located in Santa Monica Calif. Mr. Young joined the Linde Division in June 1951 at Tonowanda, New York and came to the Speedway Laboratories in June of 1960 as Administrator-Office Services. He was named Managers of Administration in January 1962. Mr. Young is a member of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Personnel Association, the Personnel Association of Indianapolis and has served as a Director of the Administration Management Society, Indianapolis Chapter. Mr. and Mrs. Young and their four children will move from their home on Melbourne Road to Woodland Hills, California in mid-October. The Korad Corporation is a subsidiary of Union Carbide Corporation and is engaged in the development and manufacture of laser devices.

Speedway Long-Time Resident, John Leonard Dies John S. Leonard, 79 years old, died Thursday, September 16 in Memorial Clinic. He lived at 1940 Cunningham Road. Mr. Leonard, one of the first 12 men to join the old Allison Engineering Company in 1917, retired in 1951 as superintendent of Plant 2. The John S. Leonard Park in Speedway is'named in his honor. He served on the Spedway Town Board from 1926 to 1943. He was a member of Speedway Methodist Church, Speedway Masonic Lodge and Knights of Pythias. Funeral services were held Saturday in Farley Speedway Funeral Home. Burial will in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Honor Leonard; a son, Lawrence Leonard, who is a member of the Speedway Town Board; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Iverson of Bradenton, Florida, and Mrs. Jane Caylor of Pike Township; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

INVESTED IN FRANCISCAN HABIT Friar Bret (Michael) Haig, O.FM., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Haig, 6139 W. 30th Street, Speedway, Indiana was invested in the Franciscan habit in recent ceremonies at St. Anthony’s Novitiate, Cincinnati. The Very Rev. Sylvan R. Becker, 0.F.M., Minister Provinical of the Cincinnati Province, officiated. Friar Haig now commences one year of spiritual formation at the Novitiate, where he will live the life of a Franciscan and learn the rules of the Order of Friars Minor (O.FM.). At the end of this year of training Frair Haig will make his first religious vows—the simple and temporary vows of poverty, chastity and obedience for a period of three years. Friar Haig graduated from St. Christopher Grammer School, Speedway, in 1960. He is a 1964 graduate of St. Francis Preparatory Seminary High School, Cincinnati. Friar Haig began his Franciscan training in I96o'when he entered St. Francis Seminary. After leaving the Novitiate, Friar Bret will continue his studies at the Franciscans’ Duns Scotus College, Southfield, Mich.

Union Carbide Transfers Russert WILLARD G. RUSSERT
Mr. Willard G. Russert, Works Engineer for Union Carbide Corporation’s Linde Division Laboratories at Speedway since 1956 has accepted a new assignment as Plant Engineer at Linde’s Kemet Department in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Russert has been a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals in the Town of Speedway since 1962. He is a member of the American Institute of Plant Engineers, having served as President of the Central Indiana Chapter in 1961. Mr. Russert has also taken an active part in Career Guidance Day Programs which are sponsored by the Indianapolis Engineering Societies Committee. Mr. and Mrs. Russert and their family are active members of the St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Speedway. Now residing on Meadowood Drive in Speedway, they will make their new home in Bay Village, Ohio.
PTA PAPER SALE The Speedway PTA is having their annual paper sale Thursday, Sept. 30. Crates will be at School 2 (Newby) and School 4 (Wheeler) Wednesday evening, Sept. 29. TOWN BOARD REPORTS By Ray L. Oath. Clerk-Treasurer The Board of Town Trustees for the Civil Town of Speedway held their regular meeting on Monday evening, September 13th in the Town Hall auditorium. The installation of Storm and Sanitary Sewers in Farley’s Home Place, 17th Section and 12th Section Part “A” was accepted by the Board on recommendation of the Street Commissioner, Mr. Lou Jackson. Mr. Lou Jackson presented a tentative program for street work for the year 1966 to the Board for study. When a final decision is made bids will be taken early in 1966 for the work to be done in 1966. Mr. Jack Hemer, Inspector for the Dry Run Diversion Ditch project reported to the Board that the job is about 13% completed to this date. Work is progressing on schedule. Georgetown Road bridge should be completed and ready to take traffic within one week.
A letter of resignation was received from W. Russert, member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. His resignation was accepted by the Board with regret as Mr. Russert has served on this Board since November 12, 1962. The Town Board of Trustees wishes to thank Mr. Russert publicly for his services rendered. Mr. Clarence Woodward has accepted an appointment to take Mr. Russert’s place. Mr. Woodward served on the Board of Zoning Appeals several years ago. The Board authorized Mr. Winfield D. Wood, President of the Board to sign the contract with Oberholtzer Construction Company for Water Main Extension195—Westchester Village. Bids will be taken and opened on October 11, 1965 for the construction of the 20th Street Storm sewer. The Board approved the application of William John Lupear as a dispatcher in the Police Department starting September 25, 1965. Mr. Lupear will replace Mr. W. K. DeLong who has entered the service. The next regular meeting of the Board will be on Monday, Sept 27, 1965, at 7:30 pm. in the Town Hall auditorium. You are welcome to attend.
DOLPHIN CLUB DUPLICATE BRIDGE There were 7% tables for the game September 10 in the clubhouse. Winners were: North-South: Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Shumar, Mr. and Mrs. Merl Kord and Willard Wendorf and Mrs. Eleanor Schaefer. East-West: Mr. and Mrs. Sedric Dye, Fred Wolfe and Richard Jacobs and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kennedy. The next game will be Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:45 p.m. CUB PACK 566 SEASON OPENER Thursday night, Sept. 16 marked the beginning of the regular program of monthly Pack meetings for Cub Pack 566. Meetings again are at 7:30 p.m. at the James A. Allison School. Cubmaster Ron Urban has planned a full schedule of activities and is looking forward to seeing all Pack members after the summer lull. For those interested in joining a Boy Scout Cub Pack, Pack 566 meets the 3rd Thursday of each month and welcomes new members to the pack. Raehn-Rolles St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, Speedway, will be the setting Oct 30 for the marriage of Miss Donna Marie Rolles and Gail Lee Raehn. The prospective bridegroom attended Indiana State University.
Bible Conference Speedway Baptist Church will conduct a special weekend Bible study led by Dr. Dale Moody on September 24, 25 and 26. Night meetings on Friday and Saturday with morning and evening sessions on Sunday will offer an unusual opportunity for concentreated study in the Bible. Dr. Moody has served on the faculty of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, since 1945 and now holds the historic Joseph Emerson Brown Chair of Christian Theology. He is known internationally as a Biblical scholar and author and is widely sought as a preacher and speaker. A native of Texas, a fine athlete, and an outstanding student, Dr. Moody holds the BA. degree from Baylor Univ., Th. M. (Continued on Page 5)

New Manager Of Administration At Linde RALPH GABARRO
Mr. Ralph Gabarro has been appointed Manager of Administration at the Linde Speedway Laboratories. Mr. Gabarro has been Personnel Director at Linde’s facilities in Tonawanda, New York since 1961. A native of Worcester, Mass., Mr. Gabarro received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1951. Upon graduation, he joined the staff of the Tonawanda Engineering Laboratory where he was involved in research and development pertaining to systems and equipment for the liquefaction, handling and distribution of cryogenic fluids. Mr. Gabarro is somewhat familiar with the Speedway area having been on special assignment here at the Linde Factory during 1956. He returns with his wife Teresa and their six children to assume his new responsibilities on October Ist.
Tri Kappa Candle Bazaar Plans are being made for the Speedway Chapter of Tri Kappa’s annual Candle Bazaar. It will again be at the home of Mrs. Richard Griffith, 2002 Cunningham Road, Speedway, on Oct 5, 6, and 7. Guests will be welcome from 9 to 11:30 am., 1 to 5 pm. and 7 to 10 pm.
