SPARKPLUGS TASTE DEFEAT The Speedway Sparkplugs fought a glorious second half, scored 13 well-earned points but didn’t have the time to score that winning touchdown. The Giants of Ben Davis beat them 20-15. In the first half it looked as though the Sparkplugs would never get across the 50, while the Ben Davis boys and Burkhardt, their fullback, were all over the field. Burkhardt scored all three of their touchdowns. The other extra point was tallied by Carmichael. Ben Davis chored 14 of their 20 points in the first half. Also in the first half, “Kirk” blocked a Ben Davis punt for a safety. The second half was a (different, story. Dave Wilson passed to halfback Dick Kaufman who in turn ran 35 yards to the Giants 2 foot line. On the next play, Dave Wilson scored on a quarterback sneak. Again in the fourth quarter, Dave Wilson passed to end Dick Boles and 6 points. Kuykendall plunger over left tackle for the extra point. TOWNTOPICS (Continued from Page 1) tion it will be one of the greatest improvement that the town has experienced and the cost will run well up into the thousands of dollars, this cost in its entirety will be borne by the Allison Division, General Motors Corporation and the town is indeed grateful for such splendid co-operation on their part. So many property owners are asking about the responsibility of trees bordering the streets that we feel an official statement should be made. Trees belong to the property owner and are. the responsibility of the property owner. It is true that the trees are on property that is dedicated to the use of the public. Sidewalks likewise are the property owners responsibility but being on dedicated property both trees and sidewalks come under the control of the city or town officials, which means that although they are owned by, and are the responsibility of the property owner the town officials in the interest, safety and well being of the public generally do have authority over them. Did you know that the cost of operating the various town services will drop from $1.02 this year to .795 next year? A bewhiskered slow - thinker has this advantage: he practically never gets the reputation of being a bare-faced liar.
