School News Speedway schools will open Tuesday,' September 4, at 8:20 a. m. All students will report for enrollment. High school students will report at 8:20 a. m. to the high school gymnasium. All sixth grade students will report to room 9, fifth grade students to room 7, fourth grade students to Mrs. Wagles room, third grade students to room 3, and second grade students to room X

Kindergarten and primary enrollment will continue from 8:20 to 10:00 a. m. Parents will usually accompany these children who may report any time between 8:20 and 10:00 a. m. Kindergarten enrollments will be made in the kindergarten room and primary enrollment in Room 1. All positions on the school administrative, teaching and custodial staff have been filled. The Speedway school system has 37 employees.

Students living outside the corporate limits of Speedway are required to obtain a transfer in order to attend school in Speedway. Residents of Wayne Township obtain the transfer at 3324 West 16th street and residents of Indianapolis obtain transfers at the Indianapolis School Board office. Either parent may ask for the transfer. These transfer certificates shoud be given to Mr. Cory, school superintendent, on or before the first day of school. Students not living in Speedway who are unable to obtain transfers will be required to pay tuition in advance.

A large squad of boys have been practicing with Mr. Johnson daily in preparation for the first football game at Greenwood Friday, September 14, at 8 p. m.

Transit Riding Shows Decline Although it may not be noticeable to Mr. and Mrs. Average Rider as yet, patronage of the Indianapolis Railways system has beendeclining during 1945, thus establishing the first sustained downward trend since war was declared.

A report recently prepared by Indianapolis Railways for the first six months of 1945 shows that there were 462,315 less riders during the first half of this year than during the same period in 1944. Now that the war is over the transit firm expects this downward trend to continue more sharply as private automobiles go into use again and employment figures fall. It is anticipated that many riders, who because of necessity used transit facilities during the war, will continue as transit patrons because they have learned the economy and convenience of riding the trolleys and buses. Thousands of Indianapolis residents have learned during the war that it is far cheaper to use the transit system than to drive an automobile. Others have grown to

Post-war rehabilitation of the facilities and service of Indianapolis Railways is expected to proceed just as rapidly as practicable and conditions will permit.
