ST. JOSKPH. Mich.. Nov. 17. By U. Trial of William Z. Foster and 19 other radicals arrested In a raid on a communist convention at 'Hridsreman last August w;ls continued until Jan. 15 when called up in Berrien county circuit court today. The defendants entered pleas of not guilty when arraigned for alleirod violation of the Michig-an antiO'ndicalLPt act. As court corfvened. Foster, spokesman for the radicals, announced that Frank I. "Walsh. New York attorney, had been retained as counsel for th2 defendants. Atty. O. L. Schmidt, in chargo of their prosecution, announced papers ordering the extradition of 55 other radical?? who escaped from the riridireman convention t-hortly before the raid would be drawn up immediately. Today's hearing, was conducted in an empty courtroom. Not a single spectator was on hand when the trial opened. A few lawyers and new'rapermen sat through the legal formalities which lasted but a short time.

Mr. L.esh told the sheriff that if shows were held the employes could be arrested for misdemeanor without a warrant being sworn out at the time. Acting on the advice, Mr. Summerland said he would arrest any person working at the theater Sunday if a show started. East spring nearly a score of affidavits were filed and several indictments returned hy the grand Jurj, vhen Sunday shows were started. Two of the case.s -were tried, one in police court, and the other in circuit court, both resulted in convictions on charges of Sabbath desecration. Fines were paid in each case. received orders that no arrests for
alleged Sunday violations are to be
made unless affidavits are filed.
