Charles Young has returned from Lexington, Ky. Mr. R. Krahl motored to Morgantown, Ind., Sunday to meet Mrs. Krahl and Mrs. O. E. Paul, who were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bilheimer. Going, be made the trip in three hours and returning used five hours. The distance between the two places is ninety-eight miles. Mrs. Neal O'Connell has returned from a visit to her husband at St. Vincent's hospital, Indianapolis. He is greatly improved and probably will be able to return home at the end of this week. - Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Barry and E. C. Barry visited their brother at Indianapolis Monday. The French government has allowed a party of journalists to view in the cathedral town of Bourges some of the big cannon which the French Ordinance Department have constructed since the war broke out as a reply to the monBter Krupps. The new Gallic monsters, which are .intended to reduce Metz and the Rhine strongholds, are tot howitzers or mortars, but long guns of about 15. Fifteen inch calibre No. 370's as .the French call them. The visitors to Bourges were delighted with these 'powerful, yet elegant" pieces, so typical of French grace and fashion. . The "370's" are a new calibre in the French artillery. Hitherto the heaviest pieces have been the naval "340" (13.4-in. siege mortars, a somewhat obsolete pattern, dating back to the nineties.
