Feb. 23, 2012 NAPPANEE - Ray A. Hauptli 68, of E. Indiana, Nappanee, died at 328 ajn., Thursday, Feb. 23 at IU Health Goshen Hospital after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann; daughters: Regina and Renee Hauptli, both of Elkhart, and Becky (Scott) Newcomer, Rae Annette and Rita Hauptli, all of Nappanee; six grandchildren; sister, Sara Mullin, Lafayette; brothers: Eugene (Laura) Hauptli, Francesville, Keith (Deb) Hauptli, and Terry (Tonya) Hauptli, Plymouth. Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pan. Sunday at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel and for one hour prior to the funeral service which was at 11 a.m. Monday at the Nappanee Missionary Church Sanctuary. Death rated a drowning BOURBON—The driver of a pickup truck that wrecked in Bourbon Feb. 16 apparently died of drowning, said Marshall County Coroner Bill Geavenger. Shortly after 6 a.m. Indiana State Police Hoopers Rodd Schuh and Patrick O'Keefe responded to a vehicle crash on Beech Road, south of 7th Road, north of Bourbon at which they found a 1998 Ford F-150 owned by 75-year-old Louis J. Cady of Nappanee, upside down in a ditch containing about six inches of water. Cady had been pronounced dead at the scene but was taken to St. Joseph Hospital of Mishawaka, where an autopsy including a toxicology report was performed. Geavenger determined with these preliminary results that thane were no drugs or alcohol in Cady's system and that he had died by drowning. Cady had been wearing his seatbelt.

April 6,1923 Feb. 21, 2012 NAPPANEE Velma Feiler-Jones, 88, of Heritage House, Nappanee, formerly of Marshall, Mich., died peacefully

Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at 4 :30 a.m. She was I bom to Paul and Ina (Schear) Dean Anil 6, 1923 in Tekonsha, Midi. She married I Laurence "Larry" FeUei; Jr. in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1991. She later married Richard Jones of Battle Creek, Mich., who preceded her in death in 2009. Velma graduated as dass valedictorian from Tekonsha, Mich, and attended 1

Business College in Kalamazoo. She worked as a homemaker and was also employed by Bell Telephone Company in Coldwater, Mich, ana The Wolverine Engraving Company in Tekonsha. She was a member of the board of directors of Goodwill in Battle Creek. She was a member of the Union Church, United Church of Christ in Tekonsha, as well as the United Methodist Church in Marshall and Battle Creek. Velma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed many travels, both in the United States as well as Germany, Denmark, Austria and Japan. She loved music and was active in the "Sweet Adelines" of Coldwater, Mich, for many years. She is survived by her three children: daughter, Kathy Grant of Coldwater, Mich., daughter, Laurel (Loren) Turner of Arizona, and son, L.G. "Gus" (Teri) Feiler of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is her sister Ruth Branch of Jackson, Mich., and two sisters-m-Law, Ann (Bruce) Rige of Lawton, Mich, and Delight Dean of Detroit, Mich., as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge the very special care provided to Velma by her caregivers Carol Brovont, Linda Layman, Maria Schmucker ana Maria Cremeans. Velma was preceded in death by a son, Baby Feiler; a grandson, Milt Houghtaling; and two brothers, Calvin ana Cedi Dean. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 24,2012 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Union Church United Church of Christ on Randall and Church Streets in Tekonsha, Mich., where funeral services took place at 2 p.m. The Reverend Barbara L.
