Borkholder has searched desperately to find a way to reach out to people in need of her medical training and spiritual guiding. Last September she learned of a program called Medical Ministry. Incorporated, based out of Plano. Texas. The following month, Cheryl joined a team of volunteers traveling to South America. Their mission, to work with the Shuar Indians. They were then given advice on how to properly care and maintain themselves regularly Borkholder worked with 99 patients during her two weeks in Ecuador with the ministry. Most all complained about back pain. She says this is to be expected because of their hard work in the sugarcane fields and lumberyards each day. Many left without pain after Cheryl worked to teach them stretching and lifting techniques to alleviate muscle tension and better serve them during their workdays. Most seemed open to continuing with the exercises after they left she reports. Borkholder says the most rewarding experience from the trip was contact with a 40-year-old woman suffering from guillian-barre for seven years The medical condition leaves both arms and legs paralyzed.
