Waves swim at Concord

The Concord Clippers hosted the Heart Smart Invitational last weekend, with the Wa-Nee Waves sending 24 competitors. Eighteen other clubs also competed, with a total of 406 swimmers participating. Placings for the Waves: Girls ages seven and under--Lee Ann Davidhizer, fourth in 25 free, 50 free, 25 breast, 25 fly and fifth in 25 back and 100 individual medley (IM). Senior leaders

Top spellers honored The local contest for the 1991 Journal-Gazette Spelling Bee was held at Nappanee Middle School on V/edncsday, January 30. Jon Schrock, eighth grade, won the contest. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Schrock. Jon correctly spelled the word “cleanser” to win the contest. Jared Hochstctlcr, seventh grade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hochstctlcr, took second place, missing the word “camouflage.” . Ken Mullet, sixth grade, finished third. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mullet. Jon will travel to Goshen Middle School to participate in the county spelling bee, February 28. Nappanee Motivators club will meet The Nappanee Motivators 4-H Club will be meeting Monday evening, February 18, at 7:00p.m. at the Nappanee Church of the Brethren, Mack Drive, Nappanee. Kathryn Mcranda, 4-H leader, and Teresa Hamshcr, assistant 4-H leader, will be available to enroll youth eight to 18 years of age (within the calendar year) in Mini 4-H or 4-H as well as answer any questions. In addition, officers will be elected for the 1991 year. Parents arc welcome and encouraged to attend. Anyone interested in knowing more about 4-H and the opportunities it provides may contact the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service—Elkhart County office, 533-0554, or the branch office, Elkhart, 523-2216. Library offers vacation help As spring approaches, the Nappanee Public Library can help with your vacation plans. The library has received “Historic Hotels of America,” published by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The pocket-sized directory contains photographs, historical descriptions, toll-free numbers and rales for historic inns in 30 states and the District of Columbia. The hotels were chosen to represent a cross-section of America. Enjoy their hospitality during your travels and support America’s heritage—a portion of your room cost will be donated to the National Trust. “Historic Hotels of America” is available in the pamphlcufilc at the Nappanee Public Library.

Waves swim at Kokomo Invitational

The Wa-Nec Waves traveled to Kokomo February 8-10, for the Last Chance Invitational. This meet was the final for the season, and the last chance for swimmers to cam semistate times or state times in a seasonal meet. Age seven and under girls: Lee Ann Davidhizer—first 25 fly, second 25 free, 25 back, 25 breast and 100 individual medley (IM). This meet is for swimmers who do not have a semi-state time, but who get another opportunity to get a qualifying time for semi-stale. Warnken completes training Pvt. Gregory A. Warnken has completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid and army history and traditions. i A 1989 graduate of-NorthWood High School, Warnken is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Warnken of Nappanee.
