Goshen drops NLC lead with loss to Zebras

A Northern Lake* Conference game spotlighted by Dallas Bean. ROCHESTER—The Goshen Redskins had capitalized on their opponents mistakes in their first four conference games. However, The Skins turned over the ball three times in the last three minutes of the first half to allow the Rochester Zebras to score three touchdowns on their way to a 26-7 Northern Lakes Conference victory. The loss gave the Plymouth Rockies first place as the Rockies had to fight for their lives to defeat Warsaw at Tiger Field, 14-7. The Redskins fall to four and one in conference play and five and one overall. Rochester’s record is now two and two in the NLC and four and two overall. The leading rusher for the Zebras was Dan Beck, a 5’11”, 185 pound halfback, who carried 19 times for 88 yards. Beck scored two TD’s. Beck’s running mate, Chris Walley, 5’10”, 188 pounder, carried eight times for 27 yards and two touchdowns. Tom Arnett, the Zebras’ fullback, carried six times for 28. Rochester’s quarterback Steve Treglia put the ball airborne five times, completing three for 28 yards. The Zebras had 200 yards in rushing. The Redskins were forced to the air because their ground game had been stopped. Steve Weddle put the ball up 16 times completing eight with three interceptions for 94 yards. Goshen’s running game was held under 100 yards for the first time this season. The total rushing game for the Skins was 77 yards. Goshen’s leading ground gainers were fullback Dave Edlund and halfback Dan Berkey, each with 37 yards. The Redskins scored first after holding Rochester to one first down. Goshen went 76 yards in 13 plays to score at 2:08 in the first quarter. Edlund scored from one yard out, and
