Farmers are warned, to be ou their guard for a couple of swindlers who are traveling around prtteuding to have a patent on the “break pin” of corn cultivators, and who claim a royalty of five dollars. We understand that the barn of a Mr. Miller, living about four miles north west of Kendallville, was burn ed oh Thursday night of last week aud at the s&moAime tbc house was robbed of’ .y considerable sum ot money.— Albion.Nete Era. ~ Dbvid. K. Miller and Henry Neff, two Wealthy farmers of Jackson township, discovered that they bad been swiudled into signing- two notes, the aniouut, aggregating §2,300, by a patent right sharper of Indianapolis. They supposed that they were signing orders for patent right implements. It is estimated that tbc sharper has caught the unsuspecting farmers of this county to the tunc of §20,000. . Win. Leuty, of this place, recently sold two car loads of extra fine cattle to S. Evans. One load was shipped last Monday, averaging 1,485 lbs.,price §4.50 per hundred. The other lot is to be taken the lasl of August at §4.25. The load shipped ou Monday was one of the finest ever shipped from this place. They will be taken for export cattle. Mr. Leuty always buys the beßt grades for feediug.— Ligonier Banner. Daniel Y. Yoder, au honest ol<f farmer living near this place, received a notice last week that his npte for §BOO, due July Ist, 1879, was at the Albiou bank lor collection. The note is ripresented as given April Ist, 1879. Mr. Yoder tells us that he ha£ up knowledge of a note against him larger than a hundred dollars, and, furthermore, states that he has . not signed a note of any kind for over a year. He says it is a forgery. There’s something mysterious about it. —Middlebury Record Nelson Evans’ living three miles west of North Manchester, attempted to go down a well on the 18th inst. for the purpose of cleaning it out. Whcu about half way down his srteugth gave out, and he fell to the bottom of the well. Another man, thinking he could save Nelson from drowning, attempted the same thing. When about half way down he became so weak that he could no longer hold himself,’’’and he fell on top of Evans. They were both fished out, but will probably dio, foul air being the cause of their overpower. About nine o’clock Wednesday morning fire was discovered in H. E. Smith’s barn. The bare is located on his farm about a mile and a half Dorth-east of this place and was a large one. When first discovered it had gained such headway that it, was with difficulty that two hones, that were iu the barn could bo saved. About 600 bushels of wheat, 400 bushels of oorn and some farming implements were destroyed. Henry Uonrad s young man working for Smith, loat a bran new buggy in
