The August calls for drafted men to CO frcm Indiana homes to the training camps of the American army will ask for as largo a number of Hoosiers as were sent under the calls in July, it was announced today in a telegram sent to the state conscription department by Provost ilarshal-General Crowder. and transmitted by Major Robert C. Baltzell. state conscription agent, to local boards, lecause of this fact, the telegram sets out. local boards have been Instructed to refuse releases to the navy, marine corps or the emergency fleet of "all registrants of the 1917 or 1918 classes, who have been or will be classified in Class 1," until the ranks of the fighting; army contingent from Indiana have been tilled up. Between S,000 and 9.000 Hoosiers answered the governments call during the month of July. The telegram to the ptate authorities says that approximately 8.500 white men and a proportionate number of colored men will be called daring August.
