1IVTS OK I'M'SII A AOVEII'Y. Something new this autumn is the hat covered with plush, instead of the familiar velvet, silk and satin, which have done duly in previous sea'on. Flusli is easy to handle and it Is so rich in itself that ery little trimming is required to complete a smart hat. Th model pictured is a .cloche shape with a full bag crown, a quaint bonnet type being suggested. A band of oriental embroidery in deep blue tones hides the joining of crown and brim and a tall feather matching the embroidery adds several inches to the wearer's height. This feather is caught to the crown band of ambroldery with a rhinestone ornament, and the whole hat, in shape and color scheme is one of the prettiest of the new models for fall.'

Waxed Gangplank, Roulette Wheel and Redhots Make Life a Merry Whirl For One Evening There.

'(Special hp Times.) - Indiana Harbor,' Jnd., Sept, 23. It would be a real scandal in high life if It hadn't all been-fun, with the ladies who constitute Indiana Harbor's smart set as the principals. Think of fifty of the most respectable of Indiana Harbor's matrons assembling in a dark and gloomy basement and indulging in all manner of games of chance, Including the really devlish pastime' known to fame as roulette. It needs, however, only the naming of those who were responsible for the Innovation to vouch for its innocence. The two who planned and executed the event were Mrs. N. E. Stenberg of Hemlock street and Mrs. George Witt of Michigan avenue. It took place Monday evening in the Stenberg basement. Invitations had been sent out in the form of handbills proclaiming that a grand free carnival was to take place, and those invited were asked to attend in costume and be prepared to "do a stunt." Nobody had the slightest inkling of what it was all about until they arrived. On arrival they were led to the cellar way which was provided with a waxed plank, and each lady was required to slide down this in order to usual and Mrs. J. M. Herei they found everything decorated most effectively in flags, bunting and Japanese lanterns. There were booths and side shows, and miracle of miracles, a balloon as cension. This seems almost an impossibility in a basement without even a trap door for the balloon to ascend through, but no less authority than Mrs. Stenberg herself will vouch for the fact that the apparent miracle was encompassed by one Professor "Aero not." Other attractions were "Eittle Eva, the Midget," who proved on inspection to be a lady guaranteed to weigh no loss than 324 pounds, but who was sus pet ted of being a dummy lady. A merry go-round that went, an African dodger, a picture gallery, Bosco, the snake charmer, and the all-important roulette! wheel. The refreshments consisted of "red hots," ice cream rones, taffy, popcorn and pink lemonade. Everybody had a grand time, and so far as heard from no fatal results have been experienced because of the mixture of refreshments. It is suspected that the police department was "fixed," as no one appeared to "pinch" the roulette outfit. Lavene and family at their home in Truman aenue.
