“OLD BILL BAHLER”
(By Virgil Abbot)
(Note: The following was sent to us for publication by the author, the sage of Walker township, and it’s good reading!—Editor) Old Bill Bahler up in DeMotte is an interprizing guy. And anyone who knows him understands the reason why. He’s a regular ’cyclopedia on most any kind of test. But he likes to argue base ball and politics the best. He’s pretty good at checkers and plays the game with care; You can verify this statement by the thinness of his hair. He likes to smoke strong cigars and sometimes takes a chew, When he sits in Curtin’s restaurant and spins a yarn or two. He has fusses with his neighbors and sometimes jaws his wife; But that’s all in the routine of a man’s domestic life. Since Bill took up the office of the justice of the peace, All this reckless kind of driving in the town has got to cease. Bill, he used to be a farmer, but he up and quit the trade; Says that life aint quite so peaeful when its 90 in the shade. Bril took up the creamery business to try to make some cash; Helped to fiance Crysler motors when their business went to smash. He’s sent some kids to college, But of all the kids he’s had, I notice young Bill Junior leans the most towards his dad. They’ve got a first, class tin shop and a plumbing business, too, And they'll fix your danged old furnace till it’s almost good as new. He’s umpired lots of base ball, ’bout as good as you can find; Though there are a lot of fellows who’ll swear he’s sometimes blind. An authority on tea kettles, from the bottom to the spout, And swears the thing has uses we have never dreamed about. Bill is running for sqme office in the court house so 1 see. If Bill says he can run her, well, that’s good enough for me. If you’re tired of politicians think before you close the door; If it’s Bill you’ll miss some stories that you’ve never heard before. In the school gym up at DeMotte, they had a big to-do; And the Prairie-Farmer station sent some intertainers, too. I caught Bill electioneering Reggie Cross and Rusty Gill! If you stand for sound democracy just cast a vote for Bill. He ain’t no high falutin’ guy, who spends a lot of dough, In buying fancy garments, and always on the go. He’s just a darn nice guy to know whose friends all call him Bill; He’s been that since I’ve known him, and I’ll bet he always will.
FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER
To the voters of Jasper county: I am a candidate for the Republican nomination for the office of Commissioner of the Second district. If elected, I promise to serve impartially and to the very best of my ability. I will appreciate your support.—John Rusk.

SLOW GROWING BIRDS COST MORE TO RAISE SAYS POULTRY EXPERT
Farmer Pays for Growing Mash, Ipven if He Doesn’t Feed It. "Practically all good chick raisers use a gojod commercial starting feed and do a good job of starting their baby chicks.' days Don Purcell of the Poultry Department ot Purina Mills ‘but so : many ot them slip during the growing period the most important period of alii." Purcell, in a common-sense way. points out; the real importance of feeding a nationally recognized growing mash during the growing period that peripd after the six weeks starting time! “The poultry raiser actually pays for a good growing mash whether he uses It or not,” declares Purcell “Pullets improperly fed take longer to mature This creates a feed loss and an egg loss And this right during the highest egg market.” And Purcell has good supporting authority to prove his contention about feeding during the growing period In agreement with him on his ideas of good feed during the growing period is Q. P Vickers of the Ohio Poultry Improvement Association, who claims a pullet must be ready to lay 36 eggs during Ocjtober. November. December and Januajry if she is to be profitable be a money-maker!
