Violinist Eddy Brown Dies
Births Announced CARIH Installs New Officers
Services for Eddy Brown, 78, concert violinist, were held Monday, June 24 at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary, with burial in Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery South. Mr. Brown died June 14 at an Abano (Italy) health resort where he had stopped en route to a speaking engagement at Budapest, Hungary. Born in Chicago, Mr. Brown came to Indianapolis with his parents when he was 4 years old and began to study the violin. When he was nine he was taken to Budapest by his mother to continue his studies. Mr. Brown made his professional debut at 14 under the direction of Arthur Nickish and began touring Europe. His repertoire at that time already included the concerts of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Mo2art. Bruch, Lalo, Paganini and Tchiakowsky. Later, he performed with such famous conductors as Wilhelm
Mengelberg, Felix Weingartner, Hans Richter, Sir Henry Wood and Sir Landon Ronald. In the United States, he appeared with the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago symphonies. In 1937 he helped found WXQR in New York City, a radio station dedicted to serious music and composers. Long dedicated to the careers of young singers, he created the National Opera Auditions and served as president of the International Academy of Bel Canto at Bordighera, Italy. He also served as Cultural Officer for the United States State Department. In 1970, Mr. Brown returned to Indianapolis with his wife, Beth Lydy, American opera singer. He was named artist-in-residence at Butler University in 1971, where he taught until his departure for Europe a few weeks ago. He is survived by his wife.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Monheit of Bay Chester, New York (formerly Beth Gerson of Indianapolis) announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, Diana Sue, born on May 29. Mrs. N. Kahn Dies At 74 Services for Mrs. Nannette F. Kahn, 74, widow of S. Carroll Kahn Sr., were held Sunday, June 23 at Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary. She died Thursday in her home, 6954 Central Avenue. Mrs. Kahn was a member of t h e Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Temple Sisterhood, Council of Jewish Women, Broadmoor Country Club and the Indiana Historical Society. Her late husband was chairman of the board of Capitol Paper Company. Survivors include her three sons, David, Robert and S, Carroll Kahn Jr., all of Indianapolis. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. M. Rothenberg Succumbs At 81 Mr. Morris L. Rothenberg, 81, 2221 East 52nd St., died Thursday, June 20, in St. Vincent Hospital. Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary^, with burial in Beth-El Zedek Memorial Park. Mr. Rothenberg was bom in Germany and lived in Indianapolis the last five years. Previously he had lived in Chicago and been employed in the women’s ready-to-wear business. Mr. Rothenberg was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Masonic
Lodge.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Louise Rothenberg, and daughter, Mrs. Leonard Nathan of Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Chapter of the Childrens Asthmatic Research Institute Hospital (CARIH) located in Denver, Col., held its closing luncheon June 20 at the Curt Restaurant in Nora. Out of town guests were Mrs. George Ahserman and Mrs. Irving Horwitz of New York City and Mrs. H. Cohen of Chicago. The program consisted of Installation of Officers presided over by the out-of-town guests with a beautiful presentation and flowers given to all incoming officers. Newcomers David Zarnow From Chicago New to Indianapolis is David Zarnow, an export of Chicago. Currently residing at 4247 Lakeway Drive, he is the son of Mrs. Pearl Zarnow of Chicago. Mr. Zarnow moved to this city to accept a position as an electronics engineer with Naval Avionics Facility. A 1973 graduate of the University of Illinois, he studied for one year at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Mr. Zarnow enjoys all sports, particularly football and basketball. We welcome him to Indianapolis and wish him a pleasant stay. Rosenthals From Chicago Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rosenthal have recently moved to Indianapolis from Chicago, 111, They are currently residing at 6847 Brendon Way, N. Dr. Mr. Rosenthal was transferred to Indianpolis by the Hilton Corporation where he is presently employed as director of food and beverage operations for the Indianapolis Hilton Hotel. Mr. Rosenthal and his wife. Lin are both graduates of the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Lin Rosenthal is the catering manager of the Atkinson Hotel.
