Reports From Spain

Miss Karen Schenkman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Schenkman, who is currently studying at the University of Madrid for her junior year, writes that she will be getting a three week vacation starting Dec. 15. Karen and her roommate will travel along the southern part of Europe visiting Alliens, Greece, where they will spend a week exploring the islands. From Greece they will fly to Rome and Naples and again spend a week around Pompeii and Vesuvius. They will also visit Corsica and Sardinia before returning to Madrid and to their studies. Karen is a language major in Spanish and

Italian. As an interesting footnote she wrote that she recently met two American children and she found it very difficult to think in English and converse with them. The American students do not revert to English after school. Unlike the USA, Europe has student hostels which cater to students travelling in foreign countries. Rooms are approximately 75 cents a night and good meals are less than $1. Only boni fide students may be guests at these hostels and they must carry their student I.D. cards with them.
