Picnic To Kick Off Angel Ball Plans

A pitch-in picnic supper will kick off plans for .his year’s Angel Ball. The dance, which is sponsored by the Indianapolis Section, National Council of Jewish Women will be held on March 12, 1966. The picnic, which will be held on September 1, will take place at the home of Mrs. Victor A. Teixler, 320 West 62nd St. Those attending will be the members of the steering committee and their husbands. will discuss “The Ideology and Background of Hadassah;” Mrs. Howard Kahn will speak on “The Medical Center and the Hadassah Medical Organization;” Mrs. Leo Fang will explain “American and Zionist Affairs;” and Mrs. Alex Star will discuss “Youth Aliyah and Vocation Education.” A luncheon will follow the morning session. The cost of the lunch is $1.50. During the afternoon session, Mrs. Jacob Lutz will discuss “Fundamentals and Parliamentary Procedure, Functions of Officers including Sponsors.” This program is open to the entire membership of the Indianapolis Chapter of Hadassah. City of Hope Sets Board Meeting, Cook Out Event The Indianapolis Chapter, City of Hope, will hold a board meeting at 8 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Canterbury House. Hostesses will be Mrs. Irving Birnbaum, Mrs. Abe Winter, Mrs. Hyman Holowitz and Mrs. Marvin SUver. The chapter also will hold a barbecue and cook out Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the adjoining yards of Mrs. Phil Fogle and Mrs. Archie Aronstam, 7 4 7 5 Spring Mill Road. Indianapolis Group Attends Hadassah Parley The Indianapolis Chapter of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, sent a four-member delegation to Hadassah’s 51st national convention at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City from Aug. 15 through August 18, 1965. The delegates included Mrs. Abe Kulwin, president of the Indianapolis Chapter: Mrs. Robert Goldstein, president of the Henrietta Szold Group: Mrs. Ernest Hirst, president of the HaTma Group; and Mrs. Shoolem Ettinger who was a guest of the National Board. A program of education among Hadassah’s 318,000 members was announced by Mrs. Mortimer Jacobson, national president of the organization. The program, which will start next month, is designed to strengthen all phases of Jewish religious and cultural life. Mrs. Jacobson added that volunteer teachers and scholars will give courses in Bible study, outline Bible study tours of Israel and offer courses in Jewish and Zionist history. Highlighting the convention was the presentation of Hadassah’s 1965 Henrietta Szold Award to Vice-President Hubert H. Humphrey “in recognition of all ho has done and is doing to mobilize support for overseas medical research and to advance the health standards of ail people.” This award was established in 1949 to memorialize the founder of Hadassah. Previous recipients include the late Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, former President Harry S. Truman, the late Senator Herbert H. Lehman, and Dr. Selman A. Waksir.an, co-dis-coverer of streptomycin. 2 Indianapolis Girls To Attend Hillel Institute Carol Loveman and Rosie Kaplan of Indianapolis, students at Indiana University, are two of 235 Jewish college students who will attend the annual summer institute conducted by the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundations at Camp B’nai B’rith here. The institute, which begins Sunday, Aug. 29, is an eight-day program of seminars, workshops and student-speaker discussions in which Jewish undergraduates are involved in candid and thorough give-and-take sessions on matters affecting them as Jews. Miss Loveman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ix>veman of 1047 North Graham, and Miss Kaplan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Kaplan of 3457 Carrollton Avenue, were chosen as Hillel representatives from I.U. to the institute. Miss Loveman is a vice-president of the school’s B’nai F’rith Hillel Foundation. Students from 127 campuses — including the University of London and The Hebrew University in Jerusalem — are participating. Gloria Louise Engel Becomes Bride of Lewis L. Braun

Miss Gloria Louise Engel and Lewis Lawrence Braun were married last Saturday night in Beth-El Zedeck Temple. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Engel, 7401 Spring Mill Road. Mr. Braun is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Braun of North Hollywood, California. The bride wore silk organza with rose appliques and carried white orchids and phalaenopis. Her veil was secured by a tiered satin pillbox. Mrs. Norbert Hankin, sister of the bridegroom, was matron of honor. Miss Nancy Bassler served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Helen Friedman of Harrisburg, Pa., Miss Jeri Kaseff and Miss Roberta Weismann. The attendants wore cranberry brocade and carried rubrum lilies. David Greenberg was best man. Ushers were Elliot David Engel, brother of the bride;
