Kirshbanm Sets Fees For Use of Rooms Kirshbaum Center from now on will make charges for the use by organizations of its rooms, Theodore Dann, Jewish Community Center Association president, has announced. The new fees range from $1.50 for use of the Sinall auditorium or other rooms for rehearsals, to $50 for certain uses of the gymnasium. The announcement made clear there will be no charge for regularly scheduled Kirshbaum organization meetings. Use of the kitchen will be $25, and the organization must be responsible for cooking, serving, and cleaning up after the event. Organizations wishing to serve soft drinks and food must pay their own bills so that no collections will be made from the Center
Camp Rennion Plans Made A! Kirshbanm Former Big Eagle campers, counsellors, and their friends, will greet each other at the camp's winter reunion at 2:30 p. m., Dec. 30, at Kirshbaum Center. The reunion committee, headed by Jerry Selig and Miriam Shapiro, have planned a program of songs, games and refreshments for all former or would-be-camp-ers from 8 to 16. Campers 11 years of age and older are invited to a reunion dance at the Center from 7 to 11 p. m. A number of last summer’s staff members will be on hand to join the festivities. There is no admission fee and all children of camp age are invited, whether or not they have attended Big Eagle Camp.
Last Rites Read For Mrs. Sophie Yosha. 80 Last rites for Mrs. Sophie Yosha, 80, 3516 Central Ave., who died Monday, Dec. 14, were held Wednesday at the Aaron-Ruben Funeral Home. Burial was in the Sephardic cemetery. Mrs. Yosha had lived in Indianapolis 25 years, and was a member of the Sephardic synagogue and the Joseph and Annie Borinstein Home for the Jewish Aged. Survivors -include two daugh ters, Mrs. Sara Sarfaty, New York City, and Mrs. Becky Cohen, Indianapolis; three sons, Samuel Yosha, Indianapolis; Abraham Yosha, New York City, and Jack Yosha, Mexico City; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Pauline Alboher, Indianapolis; a stepson, Joseph Himes, Seattle, Wash.; 21 grandchildren, and six great-grand-children.
Abe Tom her Dies; Former Resident Special SOUTH BEND—Abe Tomber, 66, Chicago, died Tuesday, Decf 9, in Chicago. He had been ill for six weeks. Mr. Tomber lived in South Bend until 20 years ago. Surviving are two brothers, David and Samuel, both of South Bend; and two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Tomber and Mrs. Rebecca Schwartz, both of Miami Beach. Funeral services were held by Rabbi Harry Z. Schectman of Sinai synagogue, and burial was in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Religious School Pupils Help Ship-a-Box Project Children of the Beth-EI Zedeck and the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation religious schools contributed gifts to fill a box which has been shipped by the Council of Jewish Women, in its Ship-A-Box drive, to its home for sixty war-orphans in Budapest. Monthly shipments are planned, Mrs. David Lipp, chairman of the project, said.
Rayns Club Arranges New Year's Eve Party The Rayus Club will hold its first annual New Year’s Eve party and dance at the Warren Hotel Wednesday, December 31. The affair will be held jointly with the newly organized Young Men’s League of the United Hebrew Congregation. The committee includes Mr. and Mrs. Morris Raff, Mr. and Mrs. George Horowitz and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gurvitz, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Schneider, with Mrs. Raff as chairman. Reservations and information may be obtained by calling FRanklin 7694 any evening or Sunday. The affair will be strictly Kosher.
Fori Wayne Veterans Elect Plan Dance Special FORT WAYNE — Dr. Morris Himelstein was unanimously elected new Post Commander of Fort Wayne Jewish War Veterans last week. Others elected were senior vicecommander, Seymour L. Samet; junior vice-commander, Emanuel Levy; judge advocate, Abe Latker and post surgeon, Dr. Naf Gladstone. The new officers will be installed early in the year 1948. A committee to make the necessary arrangements consists of Past Commander Fred Tourkow. Junior Vice-Commander Elect, Emanuel Levy and Arthur Eisendrath. Plans for the Annual New Year’s Eve dance to be given by the Post in conjunction with the Auxiliary at the Chattehbox also were announced by Mr. Tourkow and Auxiliary President Mrs. Tourkow. Music will be furnished by A1 Verweire and his orchestra and a midnight supper will be catered by the Hotel Van Orman. The dance is open to members and their friends. Ephraim Berman is chairman of the affair. Heading the subcommittees are Martin Dicker, Mrs. David Ochstein, Ralph Schwartz, Seymour L. Samet, Mrs. A1 Sheray and Mrs. Martin Dicker.
Notes- Mrs. Louis Lebensburger received word of the death of her sister, Esther Lebensberger, Dec. 2 at Dayton, O. . . . Mr. and M 'S. Jack Komito and children will spend two weeks in Miami. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Sam Weinstein will leave for Wichita Falls. Texas, to visit relatives. . . . Mr. and Mrs. A. Krakower will spend the week end in Toledo.
Monument Chapter No. 549 O. E. S. will meet at 8 p. m. Monday at the Masonic Temple. There will be conferring of Degrees, Ruth Rosenstein, Worthy Matron, and Herman Bumstein, Worthy Patron, said.
Center Net Teams To Open Season Sunday The Kirshbaum Netters, the men’s basketball team, will open their season Sunday in a game against the strong Over-the-Top Door Sales Company. The Netters have’ been newly organized under the coaching of Rube Reiswerg and the team includes A1 Nahmias, Morris Mitchell, A1 Levinson, Joe Nahmias, Harry Nahmias, Harold Ecktman, A1 Dobrowitz, Lou Goldstein, Wayne Reynolds, Mike Cassorla, Ike Nisenbaum, Joe Epstein, and Amos Nahmias. The games will be followed by dancing. Music will be provided by Andy Anderson’s orchestra. The Kirshbaum All-Stars, a high school age team, coached by Harold Ecktman, will play the preliminary against a strong opponent. Between the games, girls of the Thursday Nite Gym Class will play an exhibition volley ball game. Taking part will be Rose Tobias, Rayno Nahmias, Celia Passo, Norma Miller, Gladys Cohen, Shiiley Rein, Arlette Levy, Bess Sarfaty, Libby Fogle, Irene McKim, Juanita George, and Terry Abravaya.
Max Goodman Elected Ry Terre Haute Fund Sperlnl TERRE HAUTE — Max Goodman was elected president of the Terre Haute Jewish Welfare Fund, and Robert Wolfe was named vice-president. Other new officers are Mrs. Leon Blum, secretary and Mor ris D. Cohen, treasurer.
Hadassah Meeting Monday—A dessert meeting of Terre Haute Hadassah will be held at 1:30 p. m. Monday at Temple B’nai Abraham. Notes — Bertram Hirsch has been elected president of the Phoenix Country Club. Other board members elected are A1 Berkowitz, Abe Kaufman, David Rosenfeld and Mitchell Thomas. Holdovers were Norman Coplan and Sam Silverstein. Ed. Chaskin is vice-president and Ben Adelman secretary-treasurer. . . . Mrs. Theodore Frank has gone to Martinsville, Ind. for a few weeks. . . . Mrs. Theodore Rich is visiting her parents in Providence, R. I. . . . Mrs. Milton Levinson has been removed to her home from the hospital where she was taken after an auto accident two weeks ago.
Dr. E. J. Franklin Dies Suddenly At Office Dr. Ernest J. Franklin, 54, died Thursday, Dec. 11, at his office, 6$5 E. Maple Rd. He had lived in Indianapolis since 1941, and was a member of the staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was a graduate of the University of Berlin and of Indiana University, having obtained M. D. degrees at both universities. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Aaron Ruben Funeral Home, followed by burial in Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery. Rabbi Maurice Goldblatt officiated. Survivors include his wife, Mr*. Frances Franklin, also a physician; a son, Frederick Franklin; a daughter Mrs. Dorothy Hillring, Siockholm, Sweden; a sister. Mrs. Vera May, Los Angeles, and a giandsou.

11 From Indiana At U. J. A. Conference Special ATLANTIC CITY — Although some Indiana cities were not represented M the United Jewish Appeal Conference here, Indianapolis sent seven delegates. Four other Indiana cities sent representatives. The Indianapolis group was headed by L. L. Goodman, a national officer of the Joint Distribution Committee. Others from Indianapolis were: Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Goodman, Morris Goodman, Julian Freeman, Bert Sicanoff, Sid Cohn and Dorothy Schlesinger. Terre Haute sent Ben Blumberg; Fort Wayne, Louis Novitsky; Hammon, Leonard Freeman and Mr. Brown. Mrs. Chalfie To Speak At Oneg Shabbat Mrs. Herman Chalfie, past president of Indianapolis Hadassah and newly elected vice president of the Mid-West Region of Hadassah, will be the speaker at the Hadassah Oneg Shabbat at 2 p. m. on Saturday at the home of Mrs. Sam Yaver, 4508 N. Delaware St. Mrs. Chalfie’s topic will be "After 2000 Years—What?” Included in the afternoon’s program will be the opening prayer given by Mrs. David Hollander; group singing led by Mrs. Jack Axelrod, and the closing prayer given by Mrs. Edward Kauffman. All members and friends of Hadassah are Invited to attend.
Kirshbaum Groups To Meet Monday Dr. Dorothy Heinz of the Mental Hygiene division of the State Council on Mental Health will give the third lecture in the Pa-rent-Child Relationship course at the Kirshbaum Community Center at 8:15 p. m. Monday. These talks are open without charge to center members, and new enrollment is welcome. Other dates are Jan. 5 and 19. " The Great Discussions Group will meet at 8:15 p. m. Monday. The discussion will be based on Plato’s "Meno.” Sam Brill will lead the discussion.
Former South Bend Resident Dies Hperlal SOUTH BEND-James Hersh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hersh, Chicago, former residents, died in a Chicago hospital Dec. 4, after several months’ illness. Burial was in Chicago. Surviving are his parents, a sister, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Moss, of South Bend.

Plans for the Mid-West Regional Conference, to be held the week end of March 26, 27, and 28 in Indianapolis, will be discussed. Shekel Conference Sunday In Cincinnati A Shekolim conference will be held by Shoolem Eltinger, president of the Ohio Valley Zionist Region, at 10:30 a. m. Sunday at the Gibson Hotel, Cincinnati. Shekel sales and membership will be discussed. Attending the conference will be all district presidents, membership chairmen and shekel chairmen. Present from Indianapolis, besides Mr. Ettinger, will be Dr. Leon Levi, Abe Miller, Rabbi Samuel J. Fox and Ben Paris.
Vets To Meet Sunday At Central Hebrew The Jewish War Veteran’s Post No. 114 will meet at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the Central Hebrew Congregation, at 21st and Central Ave. The dinner-dance committee, composed of Arthur Sacks, Dr. David Tavel and Leo Scharfin, will announce details of the affair. Also on the program for Sunday is a Jewish humorous skit. Memebrs and their friends are invited.
B. H. Sapersteln Dfos At His Home Funeral services were held Sunday for Ben Herman Saperstein, 50, 3605 College Ave., who died at his home Saturday, Dec. 13. Rabbi William P. Greenfeld and Cantor Myro Glass officiated at the rites at the Aaron-Ruben Funeral Home. Burial was in Beth El Cemetery. Mr. Saperstein, a member of the J. Saperstein and Sons scrap iron Arm, was a member of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Beth-EI Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Beth-EI Zedeck temple, Jewish War Veterans Monument Masonic Lodge, and was an associate member of Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Town. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Saperstein, a daughter Toby Jean Saperstein; his father, Jacob Saperstein; a b other, Morris Saperstein; a half-brother Arch E. Falender, and a sister, Mrs. Ray Katz, Cincinnati.
Last Rites For Infant Speo'n! SOUTH BEND—Private burial took place Sunday, Dec. 7, in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery for Susan Janovsky, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Janovsky. She was born Dec. 3, weighing only 24 ounces. A sister, Sandia, also survives.
