WISECRACKS WEISMAN

I’M STARTING MY CAREER as a columnist with a warning! (I’ll probably have it ended by the same token.) But I want to warn all the readers of The Post as to what they can expect to be seeing and reading in this column. Contents will consist of CORN, NEWS OF THE PEOPLE, CORN, News for the People, CORN, Activities, CORN, Dances, etc. . . , Writing columns is not new to me. In fact, this is not the first time I ever had literary inclinations. I have written several times for money . . . especially home. I also wrote for several magazines and newspapers, and after several days they would send me a copy of each. (See what I mean by CORN?). . . . By the way, if you know of any newcomers in town, let me know and I’ll try and see that they get acquainted. If the newcomer is a “single’’ fellow, I’ll see to it he meets the opposite sex. But if the newcomer is an unmarried and interesting girl, then I “personally’’ will look the situation over. (It’s better to look over the situation than overlook it.) No! I’m NOT married! I only look tired. INTO SAM’S SUBWAY, “Where the Elite Meet to Eat,’’ and saw Tete Dann and charming wife Dulcy (oh, if I could only meet a girl like her) partaking of a midnight snack. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Joe Burnstein taking home some extra food. . , . Martin Prince making up for the several years he was out of the country, “eating” the food and “feasting” his eyes on his date. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Lou Trintz eating their “farewell” bite before leaving town for New York, where they will reside. Hate to see Anita Trintz go; she’s plenty cute, but don’t worry, fellows, she promises to commute. . . . Stan and Jack Lamran stopping on the way home for a sandwich. . . . It’s good to see the Hockman boys, Saul and Harry, back on the job. Congrats to Saul, who proposed to Jackie Woerner. . . . Josh Fineberg and his adorable wife Jane (oh, if I could only meet a girl like her) getting hellos from friends. . . . Harry Fogel and wife Dorothy looking like newlyweds. THE AFFAIR of the month — the Valentine Eve dance, sponsored by the Young Adult Council, promises to be “BIG TIME.” CoChairmen Helga Blumenthal and Lois Rosenthal tell me that many pleasant surprises will be in store for those who attend. Let’s go get “surprised.” It will be held next Wednesday at the Antlers Hotel. THE “WEEK-END AT THE EATON'S" Restaurant found the “old" married couples, Dr. Bill Borman and wife (oh, if I could only meet a girl like her). Dr. Gabe Schuchman and wife Sylvia, former AZA “Czar” Irv Talesnick with his chickey chic wife, making the room seem brighter with their laughter. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Ben Blieden, trying to decide what’s on the menu. . . . A1 and Ruth Lieberman, Allan Goldstein and wife, had their own booth in the corner, looking very contented with the world. . . . Grandad and Grandmom David Sablosky looking as young as ever, and very pleased over the new “addition” that son Marvin and wife presented them. Congrats! . . . Bob and Phyllis Netzorg dining with Herb Backer and his wife (oh, if I could only meet a girl like her). Herb is it true what I hear? ... At another table was Barney Dorman, Ben Dorman and Norm Weisman, the 3 B’s (I’m sure it means bachelors, or at least it sounds like it.) HEARD A RUMOR that Sanders Leventhal is going to ask a Cincinnati girl a "serious” question. Who’s the lucky girl, Sanders? . . . Orchids to Irving Larner, new general secretary of Kirshbaum, and to his two swell assistants, Harry Sack and Max German, for the activity around the Center. Also to Earl Montgomery, popular athletic director, who is doing a swell job in the gym and swimming departments. Everyone is invited to see the basketball games which are held every Sunday afternoon. You can see some bang-up games, and I do mean bang-up A happy reunion when Norman Baker and Bert Baker, former Kirshbaum Center swimming instructors, greeted each other for the first time in four years. Welcome back. CONGRATULATIONS to the George Cohens, upon their wedding anniversary. May you both live as long as you like and have what you like, as long as you live. . . . Morris Mitchell being feted by his family and friends. Gosh! has he changed? When he left, he was only a little shrimp, and now he is big. (I’m only kidding Morris, you had a rough time as a combat engineer over there, and glad you’re back.) . . . Special message to Meyer Effroymson up there in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Is it true that you met “HER." You’ll be a traitor to us bachelors, but let us know about it, so we can say “Oh Happy Day”! ... Harry Bolotin after a month in Florida, had to come back to Indianapolis for a “rest.” . . . SUNDAY MORNING at the Uptown Bowling Alleys, where the Beth El Mens Club League is in progress. It’s fun to watch, especially since the “No Profanity” has been waived. I wonder why Dave Yaver bowls with his hat on! Sudden thought: If I bought a hat, could I charge that to overhead expenses? (Oh Brother, bring in the cows. I’m pulling them today). . . . Chas. Feibleman and his honey of a wife, Nahoma, (Oh if I could only meet a girl like her) at the Saphire Room, with Daddy Feibleman along to show them a few steps. . . . Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Goodman, nee the former Joan Weiss, on their "bundle from heaven.” “Uncle” Bernie Goodman is feeling as proud as if he bowled a 300 or had five aces. (He always has an “ace” up his sleeve). ... I wonder if the new daddy Billy Meyers, Jr., is making a few “changes.” “Grandpop” and “Grandmom” Meyers and “Auntie” Caroline (Meyers) Goldbach, have good reason to feel proud. . . . Something I’d like to see: “Dynamic” Shoolem Ettinger walking slow. He is now in the midst of a “join the Zionist" drive. It’s a good idea. . . . They say dentists get on your “NERVES” but not doctors, Phil Fichman, Elliott Hirsch, Phil Fogel, Chas. Kauffman and Benny Fisher. . . . Funny thought: Would dentists be considered sad and unhappy, just because they “look down in the mouth.” . . . Harold Stolkin walking around with a “FRANK” look in his eyes. We miss you Jackie. ... I saw three “ideal” couples at the Sapphire Room. Harry Traugott and Leah Schneider; Eugene Click and Marilyn Koffman; and George (swell guy) Sax and Ann Kohn. All tops in my “hit" parade.
