ANNUAL WELFARE FUND CAMPAIGN TO OPEN TUESDAY AT FORT WAYNE Special
FORT WAYNE-L. L. Goodman of Indianapolis will be tho guest speaker at the opening dinner meeting of the 1945 Jewish Welfare campaign Tuesday evening at the Anthony Hotel. Mr. Goodman was the 1944 general chairman of the Indianapolis United War Fund campaign, and is a member of the ^cecutive board of the Indianapolis Jewish Federation and vice president of the Jewish Welfare Fund. Nicholas M. Brazy and David Hutner are chairman and cochairman of this year’s campaign. The dinner Tuesday evening is the opening pieeting for campaign leaders. Members of the committee include Manuel King, G. Irving Katz, Louis J. Novitsky and Meyer Ruchman. The annual campaign is a function of the Federation, under the presidency of Benjamin Hutner.

Thursday evening, to hear the Hon. George H. Leonard of the Allen County Supreme court speak on “Military Justice.” Sisterhood to Meet—A meeting of the Temple Sisterhood will be held at 8:30 p. m. Tuesday to discuss plans for the coming year. Weingart to Conclude Series - The closing book review in the annual series presented by Rabbi Irving A. Weingart, will be given at the Hebrew Center Wednesday evening, April 18. Sisterhood to Receive Nominations The B’nai Jacob Sisterhood will meet at 8:15 p. m. Wednesday, April 11 when the nominating committee will present its slate of officers. The Sisterhood contributed $25 to the Red Cross. Synagogue Notes—The sermon topic tonight at B’nai Jacob congregation will be “On the Road to Freedom” . . . The sermon topic at Achduth Vesholom congregation will be "The Story of Passover Relevant To Our Times.” A miniature Seder will be held by the Achduth Vesholom religious school Sunday, with Susie Hutner, Sanford Epstein, Harry Segal and Barbara Strauss participating. . . . Children of the B’nai Jacob Sunday school will conduct their Seder and present a program tonight. Parents and friends are invited. In the Service Maj. and Mrs. David Schwartz and children, of San Antonio, Tex., are visiting Mr. Schwartz’s mother, Mrs. Flora Dessauer. . . . Pfe. Lawrence R. Hertzman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward I. Hertzman, has arrived in France. . . . 1st Lt. Myron S. Goldman, former manager of the Boston store, son of Mrs. J. L. Goldman, has been promoted to that rank at the Tuskegee, Ala, Army Air Field. . . . Capt. Naf H. Gladstone, formerly a practicing physician and surgeon in Ft. Wayne, is home on furlough. He is commanding officer of a unit which has seen service in Australia, India, Palestine, Egypt and Italy. . . . Pvt. Hyman H. Schultz was wounded in action in Germany for the second time, and has been moved to a hospital in England. He was previously injured in the D-Day invasion, and has received the Purple Heart. He has seen service in India, North Africa, Sicily and France. He also holds the Bronze Star for meritious action, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and six Bronze Battle Stars for action in six major campaigns. Notes Mrs. Nelson Poliak, G. Irving Latz, and Herman Himelstein are all at the St. Joseph Hospital. . . . A. M. Strauss is the architect for the four-million-dollar war housing project at Charleston, Ind., the 24th such project he has constructed since 1942. It will be completed Aug. (Continued on next page)
