Federation to Study Jewish Population Special FORT WAYNE —Plans for a Jewish population study for Fort Wayne and vicinity were approved by the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Jewish Federation Thursday, Oct. 5. Chairman of the study is Col. Chester Lichtenberg. Members of the commitee include Lawrence Levy, Jack Skadron, Mrs. Henriette Erber and Mrs. Claude Lee. This study will be made within the next few months. A meeting of the Jewish Community of Legonier will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18 to elect two representatives to the board of directors of the Fort Wayne Jewish Federation and to discuss a program of Federation. Ben Hutner president and William Avrunin executive secretary of the Jewish Federation and some of the Federation will attend the meeting. Ben Glazer is temporary chairman of the Legonier group. The Army and Navy committee of the Federation sent Chanukah packages to all Fort Wayne Jewish boys in the service.

Hadassah to Open Season Tuesday—The first fall meeting of Hadassah will be a luncheon at 1 p. m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Hebrew Center. A board meeting at noon will precede the regular meeting. A program in the form of a radio bi'oadcast is being planned with Mrs. Joe Goldstine and Mrs. Claude Lee particip*iting. A digest of Jewish news will be presented by Mrs. Jacob Schwartz. Mrs. Chester Lichtenberg is in charge of the luncheon. B’nai Jacob Forms Men’s Club —The B’nai Jacob Men’s Club was organized Tuesday evening, Oct. 3 at the home of Meyer Ruchman. The aim of the club is to promote the cultural religious educational and social welfare of the men of B’nai Jacob congregation. Jack Mans Bach was elected president; David Block, vice-presi-dent, and Abe Lipp, secretary and treasurer. Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month at the Hebrew Center. A membership drive will open Ahursday evening at the Hebrew Center, when Rabbi Louis J. Lehrfield of Austin Community Center, Chicago, will speak. A string quartette will play. Byron Novitsky, Jack Skadron and Nathan Liff are in charge of the program. Scholarship Fund to Sponsor Card Party—The Hebrew Union College Scholarship Fund of the Temple Sisterhood under the chairmanship of Mrs. David B. Fishman, will sponsor a card party and bingo at the Temple at 8 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 21. There will be door prizes and refreshments will be served throughout the evening. The committee assisting Mrs. Fishman includes the Mesdames William Brosler, Harry Daniel, Bud Fisch, Jack Frank, Ben Hutner, Manuel King, Sam Kraus, Harry Landy, Ben Levy, Nelson Nieman and Sol Rothberg. James Lasertvitz ft 7 ounded in Germany Special GARY — Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lazerwitz that their son Sgt. James Lazerwitz, 23, was wounded slightly when crossing into Germany, Sept. 17. He was evacuated to a hospital in Eng’and from which he wrote his parents, who had already received official notification a •lay earlier. Sgt. Lazerwitz was in England only six days before going on to the front. He arrived in England in July.

Jospe to Discuss • What Is a lew?" Special BLOOMINGTON—The first in a series of classes on Contemporary Jewish Groups will be held at 7:00 p. m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Indiana University Hillel Foundation, under the direction of Dr. Alfred Jospe. The subject of discussion will be, “What is a Jew?” At Friday evening serv ices at 7 p. m. Dr. Jospe will continue the group of sermons on “Marriage” which he began last week. A Jewish quiz program will follow. Classes in Hebrew for all in terested persons will begin at 11 a. m. Saturday. Sisterhood to Hear Taxay Farewell Special TERRE HAUTE -The Temple Israel Sisterhood will hold its opening meeting at 2 p. m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the Temple when Rabbi J. Marshall Taxay will give his farewell address. A social hour will follow, with a tea lor the new members as guests.
