Xhe committee weat to tbe fartbest limit jot tbelr power ander the resolution ta ascertain the true .condkion of tbe State Treawry. It is true that the letter of the statute has sot been tnctiy compile with, but this certainly has not been the iaolt of the Treasurer, as he had no .authority or power to do more than receive and disburse the public funds, hedged in by be l0ilwlne restrictive statute: "Tbe room aiow occupied, or wnich may tm hereafter assigned to and occupied by th Treasurer of täte, together with Che tales, vaults and other proper acd neoeesary means for the security and afe-keplnjrf tbe publtc money thereto beloning, shall toaetiuile tha Treasury of tbe duue ol Indiana, and the Treasurer of tte shall be required too se the Treasury eo constituted as the sole lae tor tbe deposit a tki safe-keeing of the monies ol the Bute." To the unsophisticated It would mem that our Treasury ia a stronghold of Impregnable wails, and that the suits aod tales ace well sruardod with Iron bolts, bars sad tieae-Jocks, and impervious to f re and burglar. Not m, gentlemeo. Tbe rooms are reither Ore or burglar-proof, and it would be stupidity on the part of the Treasurer of Bute to even contemplate depositing any large amount of money in the rickety old trap called a safe in the cute Treasury." Burglars would go through It as easily as a baza saw through a paper box. Therefore it eouid not be otherwise expected than that the Treasurer would seek a more secure place of deposit for the publlo funds, aad indeed in doing so he bat exercise the prudence of a wise and careful public officer, and is to be commended for hi action Instead of being traduced and maligned as a law-breaker - and felon. Mr. Cooper baa followed tbe precedents of his predecessors in otao, aal is neither better nor worse than they. Xte coKsiuea la Jta luTftU&aUQa t4u l

Last November Bill Blckey, a Chicago rough, entered ttie sanciim of the Wabash Courier with the avowed yurpose of killing tbe editor. Lee Linn. The latter. having heard of Hickey's threats, fired a shot from a revolver at him. and Bicker left. Last night Hlckey came ta the city. got drunk, and threatened repeatedly to kill Mr. Linn, and this morning when the two met, not withstanding Mr. Linn's warning, Hickey fol lowed him half a block and assaulted him. Mr. Linn then drew his revolver. a forty-fov.r calibre weapon, and fired twice at Dickey, both shot! taking effect in his right lung, inflicting wounds of which Hlckey isdvine to-nieht After the shooting Mr. Linn gave himself up, but was released till Monday on his own recognizance, when a preliminary trial will be held. Hlckey is a Quarrelsome fellow, strong in frame and brutish m Instinct, and tbe opinion prevailing is that I Inn shot him in self deieme. The affair causes a great sensation here As to Mrs. Dudley's Antecedents, Montbeal, Feb ".With regard to the antece dents of Mrs.Dudley.who shot at O' Donovan Bossa, Mrs. Elizabeth Vicsry, ef Doncgana street, ha supplied some interestlcg particulars. Give Them a Cbavnce. if the thousands and tens of thousands of weak: and weary sufferers throughout the land, who, in spite of care and skill, are steadily dritiDg downward, could have the benefit of that singularly Vitalizing Treatment now so widely dispensed by Drs. Biarkey & Palen, of 1,109 Girard street, Philadelphia, the help, and ease, and comfort it would brinx to wasting bodies and depressed spirits would be blessings beyond price. If, reader, you haye an invalid wife, or mother, or daughter, or sister, or any one who is under your care or dependent upon you, and to whom life has become burden through weakness aad pain, consider seriously whetbf r you are not bound, in both love and duty, to give this sufferer a chance of recovery, or, at least, the blessing of ea?e from pain. You are offered the amplest means of information in regard to this new Treatment. If von can examine testimony without prejudice, and can weigh evidence with judgment and discrimination, write. to Drs. fctaikey & Palen for such proofs in documents and reports of cases as will enable you to fairly examine and decide for yourself. Thomas C'Brien, who held the rank of Colonel in the Union army, and who achieved great prominence at the time of I the Fenian raid into Canada, and who la supposed to haye a close knowledge of the movements ot the Irish nationalists, was interviewed by a representative of the Associated Press to-day. O'Brien was a friend cf James Stephens and Mshoney.and was a political prisoner in Ireland for two jeais as a suspect. He declared he had positive knowledge that the dynamite used in the London explosion was not manufactured In ths country but in France, although the dynamiter might he from this country. He said every true fritnd of Ireland would regret the shooting of licssa, as it ter ded to make a hero aod martyr out of a blatherskite, who had as much to do with the blowing up of London as the speaker had. It is truly wonderful to see how the name of Mrs. Pinkham is a household word among the wives and mothers of our land. Alike in the luxurious homes of our great cities and in the humble cabins of the remote frontier one woman's deeds have borne their kindly fruit in health for others. Cleveland Should be Given a Fair Show. Philadelphia Times. Those Democrats who have any reeard for their party or tbe country will do all that is possible to give President Cleveland a clear field. He ahould not be hampered in the first days of his term, and an extra session of Congress would certainly be a disaster, not alone to the President bnt to the party. There are various forms of bilious and intermittent fevers that require vigilant care and watchfulness. If Mis tiler's Herb Bitters be kept in the household it will be found to be invaluable in attacks of this kind. Henry Heister, of Cleveland, O.. says: "I was taken aick last summer with bilious remittent fever, and was cared by Mihler's Herb Bitters. It it a grand preparation, and everybody ought to keep it on hand." A Horrible Accident. 8crihton, Pa , Feb. 6 Daniel Kullman, a laborer at the L. I. and C.
