AA Sets Up New Formula For the Sport
All Events Will Be For National Titles,
It Is Announced By ART WRIGHT Hair-raising midget auto racing competition has been promised speed fans in this area nex summer, ’ In an effort to revive spectator interest in the tiny cars, the American Automobile Association's Contest Board approved plans for a new type of midget competition here and throughout the nation. , - Arrangements were completed here yesterday in the Lincoln Hotel.
Jim Lamb, secretary of the AAA Contest Board, and race
track operators of this and other|
racing sections worked out ‘the new midget speed formula. .
100-Lap Feature
Every midget race ran under AAA jurisdiction will be a ‘National Championship event. Almoat every race program will present a 100-lap finale. Four preliminary sprint races also will be run at each program. Cars willl be lined up for every event in in. verted order, with the fastest qualifiers at the rear. Most tracks will start 18 cars in the feature race, some will start 24 cars. To keep any area from being “over-raced,” the AAA's sched-
ule allows only one midget race
a month on any track.
The tracks will be allowed to present other types of racing in addition to midgets. Stock cars! and big speedway cars will be seen in operation on some, Indianapolis’ W, 16th St. Speedway will open its once-a-month midget schedule May 25. Lafayette Speedway will open May 11, Kokomo Speedwey, May 18, Anderson’s Sun Valley Speedway, May 23, :
