Rev. Edward F. Murp To Address Hibernians

New Orleans Educator | Breakfast Speaker

The Rev. Fr. Edward F. Murphy, S8J, New Orleans, La. will Speak as the Ancient

celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in Marion County at breakfast Sunday in the Claypool Hotel. Judge Joseph M. Howard, county president of the organization will act as toastmaster, Frank J. Curran, chairman, announced today. Fr. Murphy, a member of the Josephites, which dedicate themselves to Indian and Negro missions, is dean of the school of philosophy and religion and adviser to the faculty of Xavier University, New Orleans, the only Negro Catholic university in the nation. He is founder and president of the National Negro Historical Society and co-founder and president of the Southern Philosophical Association. Well-Known Educator Well known throughout the § country and particularly in the ; South, Father Murphy is recognized as a leading educator, lecturer and reviewer, He is an § official book reviewer for the Chicago Tribune. His best known § biographical novels are “The Scarlet Lily,” “Road From Oli- § vet,” “Pere Antoine” and “Made- § moiselle Lavelliere,” and his gpn- § fictional works include ‘“Handclasps With the Holy,” “New Psy chblogy and Old Religion,” “St. Thomas’ Political Theories and Democracy” and “The .Tenth Man.” His children's books include “Just Jack” and “Tale of Two Brothers.” Movie rights for “Scarlet Lily,” based on the lifée of Mary Magdalen, have been pufchased by David Selznick to be produced in Italy.
