BRUNO GRANTED APPEAL; STAY DELAYS DEATH State to Finance Cost of Record: Reilly Splits With Fisher. Bv t nitri Prrtt TRENTON. Feb. 19 —Bruno Richard Hauptmann today won the right to appeal his conviction for murder of the Lindbergh baby and was granted a stay of execution, originally set for the week of March 18. Chancellor Luther A. Campbell granted a writ of error to C. Lloyd Fisher and Frederick Pope of defense counsel, after Mr. Fisher had spilt with chief defense counsel Edward J. Reilly. Mr Reiily had proposed to delay the appeal action and said either he or Mr. Fisher had to get cut of the case. Hauptmann's sentence to death was automatically stayed by granting of the writ. The state, on order of Justice Thomas W Trenchard. will pay the cost of printing the record for the appeal because Hauptmann is a pauper. The date of March 28 was set for argument before the Court of Errors and Appeals. Mr. Fisher and Mr. Pope asked and were granted a writ for a review of Hauptmann’s conviction in his trial at Flemington. at which Justice Trenchard presided.
