PERU TROOPS RULE Tu CURB RIOTINGINDIANS Two Americans, Austrian Are Slain by Hostile • Miners. Bv United Peel* LIMA. Peru, Nov. 13.—Military law was invoked in Lima and in the Andes copper mining region today to curb rioting Indian miners, who had turned upon foreigners. A general strike in connection with the rioting became partly effective at 7 a. m. today. Street cars and auto busses halted In the suburbs of Lima and outlying regions were crowded with thousands of workers, who sought transportation. Except for a few taxicabs the streets were almost without traffic. The strike offered a peril to the refugees evacuating the disturbed mining area. Steam trains, including those operating between Lima and its port of Callao and elsewhere, were halted. Two Americans and one Austrian were killed by the Indians in the mining camp of Malpaso, near Cerro De Pasco, more than 15,000 feet high in the Andes. Three Americans and several other foreigners were wounded. Twelve of the rioters were killed and some twenty-five wounded. A hostile atmosphere has prevailed in the mining region, particularly at the Cerro De Pasco mines, for several weeks because of labor troubles. RAID FOLLOWS FIGHT Trio Arrested After Police Seize ‘Militant’ Brew. Drinks that put visitors of an alleged speakeasy at 72216 South East street in a fighting mood today caused a raid in which police secured 240 quarts of home brew. Rex Cotterman, 35, of 454 White River boulevard, felt so good after tasting the beverages that he hit Ray Plumber, 25, of 1326 Blaine avenue, on the head with a hammer, police were told. After exchanging blows, they started a chase down South East street, straight into the arms of Police Lieutenant Lester Jones. Upon investigation by police, William T. Door, 32, was arrested for keeping a blind tiger at 722 1 i South East street and Cotterman and Plumber were lodged in jail charged with assault and battery.

Faded Glory Yacht, Once the Toast of Sea-Going Men, Now Up for Auction.

Bit United Prcxx Vancouver, b. c., nov. 13. An ignominious end awaits the ortce-magnificent private yacht Santa Cecilia, up for auction in a shipyard here. The Santa Cecelia’s career began when she slid from the ways of a Glasgow shipyard in 1881 as the luxurious yacht of the Marquess of Anglesey; The toast of sea-going men, the gay ports of many nations were proud to have her call. Haughtily she raised her bow when, loaned by the marquess to Lilly Langtree, she bore the “Jersey Lily" on a cruise of the Mediterranean. But the years told on her. In 1917 she steamed into port here in company with the former yacht Santa Maria, but not as the glorious Santa Cecelia—her name had been changed to Selma. Working commercially for Union Steamships Limited, in company with the Santa Maria, her name again was changed, this time to Chasina. Her running mate was renamed as the Chilco. Water-side gossip involved the Chasina a few years ago when it was whispered that, sold to private interests, she had lowered her pride to the point of becoming involved in the liquor smuggling trade. TORPEDO PLANES NEXT Pilotless Aircraft, Controlled by Ships, Predicted by Army Leader. ST. They will carry 2,000-pound torpedoes, he said.
