Nicholson, 21, a finance major from Indianapolis, appeared in Vigo County Court on a preliminary charge of murder Monday in the shooting death Saturday of Brian R. Hogue, 23, Mooresville. Hogue, a senior communications major, was a bartender at Ballyhoo Pizza King & Tavern, a popular bar near die ISU campus. He was shot once in the chest as he stood in the tavern's doorway after a scuffle over an alleged purse-snatching. Hogue and bouncers from the tavern went outside to quiet a disturbance after a woman said Michael Boswell, 19, Indianapolis, had taken her purse. Hogue and the bouncers refused to let Boswell or Nicholson back inside the tavern and Nicholson, who has a gun permit, fired his pistol. A bar patron, Douglas Beauregard, 21, Indianapolis, was shot in the stomach during the incident and was listed in satisfactory condition Monday at Union Hospital.
