In one of the dramatic highlights of the 1966-67 television season, Ivan Dixon stars as U. S. Army Sergeant Oily Winter in Roland Ribman’s original play. “The Final War of Oily Winter,” premiere presentation on “CBS Playhouse,” Sunday, Jan. 29. 8-9:30 p.m. in color on the CBS Television Network. The “CBS Playhouse” project was established last June by the Network to bring meaningful original drama to television. Ribman, an off-Broadway dramatist, is one of a number of writers—some new' to the television medium and others who are established names— who have been commissioned to write for the “Playhouse.” Dixon, a regular cast member on the “Hogan’s Heroes” series, is seen in the Ribman drama as Oily Winter, a professional Army man for 20 years who is serving a tour of duty as an adviser in Vietnam in 1963. As he struggles to escape from Vietcong territory after a battle, he meets a frightened and lonely Vietnamese girl, played by Tina Chen, who follows him, making his escape more difficult. “The Final War of Oily Winter” is produced by Fred Coe, winner of a George Foster Peabody Award, and directed by Paul Bogart, who directed the Emmy award-winning “Ages of Man,” which starred Sir John Gielgud, on the CBS Television Network.
