Mrs Anna Washington, nationally prominent church leader, has been selected to receive the third j annual Nettie S. Gibson award given by Wallace Community AME Church to the Indianapolis “Mother of the Year,” Rev. Ford Gibson, pastor, announced this week. The presentation will be made at a special service and reception

She was the first Negro committeewoman in Marion County, first Negro ward chairman and organizer of the first Republican women’s club. The award is made annually in honor of Rev. Gibson’s mother, a resident ot Kestside Indianapolis.
I can really say that I had a busy weekend,’ although it was very pleasant indeed. Last Saturday, I attended a reception given by Mrs. Fannie Young in honor of our new field missionary from Louisville, Mrs. Virginia
Edwards.
Mrs. Young, I must say, always does such a good job of entertaining our national workers — which .makes un for all the other state officers who should have greeted our visitor. Also present at t h e reception were Mrs. Ardelia Halsell, vice-president, and Mrs. J. T.
Highbaugh.
Those who heard Mrs. Edwards last Sunday know she is a wonderfully sincere sneaker, humble and right down-to-earth. After Sunday school at First Baptist Church, North Indianapolis, I went to the women’s program at East Side Baptist Church. Mrs. Theresa Williams, wife of the pastor, and Mrs. Betty Haggard were speakers. Rev. Andrew Williams is doing a splendid job. Last week, 40 new members taken in during the month were baptized. Sunday afternoon, I attended an enjoyable service at Good Samaritan Baptist Church. At 6:30, I presented a travelogue at Southside CME Church. Rev. W. H. Crenshaw is to be commended for his work there.
