THE AVENOO IS VERY MAD, and rightly so, because we haven’t got a Negro captain of the police force ... We feel that Naptown should have bad a captain by this time ... In view of the fact that other similar cities have promoted their officers to this post. Here we have three sergeants, and none making the regular roll call . v We winder why! Are these people police sergeants, or aren’t they . . . ? We should ask our candidates for MAYOR at the coming elections . . . You, as a reader, should write in to us and
tell us your views. Be sure and do it TODAY.
IN THE NEWS BAG . . . Jumped out to the Bdst Beers, 544 E. Washington st. and talked with the congenial manager, Harry J. Gasper, who. aside from his duties at the Best Beers, is working very hard campaigning for Phil Bayt for mayor ... He urges his friends to come out and register and VOTE ... .... THE FABULOUS EBONY LOUNGE is no-w featuring TV with an efficient crew of bartenders, including Ricci Dudley and Harry Newman; Waitresses, Ernestine (Tina) Martin and others . . . Dropped into the Sunset dancery 2 Sundays back and caught Choker Campbell and his fabulous aggregation of tine musicians . . . The band consists of trumpet, trombone, alto sax, bass fiddle and piano . . . You have to hear this wonderful crew to appreciate their extraordinary style . . . They are polished, precise and unorthodox . . . Naptown could well use more orchestras of Mr. Campbell’s caliber . . . Mr. Tyler, the promoter, is to be con-
graduated for his taste in entertainment,
LOWELL FULSON, featured guitarist with the Campbell crew, rocked the house with his fine singing. Mr. Tyler’s coming attractions include: The Clovers, Paul Williams, Tiny Bradshaw and Muddy Waters. Watch this page for time and place . . . Seen at the Sunset were Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bess, Mr. and Mrs. Wells, Dawn and Carmalita Hampton, Kenneth, Pat and John Wright, Clarence Gaddie, Jeanne
Rickhart and Ezell Guttis.
