The Woman’s Council held their second of the series of Educational meetings of the season at the Y. M. C. A. Monday afternoon. About two hundred women were present, and while the audience was not an enthusiastic one, the close attention given each speaker showed that they were interested in the question of the hour— “Woman’s Suffrage.” The decorations were of yellow streamers and American flags. Miss Carolyn Barnes, a teacher in one of the public schools, presided in a most pleasing manner. Miss Barnes is a very ardent supporter of woman’s rights, having been a resident of Colorado, where women have the right of franchise. The meeting was opened wdth singing of “America.” The first speaker was Miss Laura Donnan, an instructor in the Shortridge High School, whose subject was “Democracy in Woman’s Suffrage.” Among the many interesting points given was advice against promising too much, turning from party to party and failure to include all women. She said that the results of suffrage necessarily would be democratic, ill that it would tend to break down social barriers and insure the highest ideals of government. Miss Elizabeth Mays, a very prominent young woman in religious circles, spoke on the “Preparations for Suffrage” and showed by her well prepared argument that women had been preparing for this from the days of Eve, when God placed her on earth to help man. F. B. Ransom, one of the leading attorneys of the city, told “Why Indiana Needs a New Constitution.” He made it plain that an up-to-date constitution is needed to meet the needs of the present day. Mr. Ransom is also a real supporter of Woman’s Suffrage. Mrs. Lena Kirk Porter was the soloist. The next mepting of the series will be held in November. Through the kindness of the W. C. T. U. literature and streamers “Votes for Women” were distributed. The Council is also indebted to this organization for the appropriate decorations.

Miss F'orence Allen was hostess to the Mary Campbell Mite Missionary society Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Mary Beck. A dainty three coursa lunch was served. Covers were laid for fifty-two women. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Mayme Gardner in Center street, Nov. 4th.
