CHANCELLOR SCORED BY SOCIALIST LEADER.
SHOUTS OF TREASON HEARD
LONDON, April 2.—There were stormy scenes in the reichstag Friday, according to a Reuter dispatch from Amsterdam, when Socialist deputies foreshadowed the establishment of a republic and demanded that the reichstag have larger powers In the foreign policy. Dr. Eduard David, the Socialist leader, is quoted by the Cologne-Gazette as saying: “My party has addressed an appeal to foreign Socialists for peace without annexation. It has been rejected. The French want absolutely to annex Alsace-Lorraine." He declared that the imperial chancellor’s words, directed to the new rulers of Russia, had transgressed the military censorship, for the military authorities had instructed the press that nothing must be published appearing like approval of the Russian revolution. He asked for the creation of a constitutional democratic state. Georg Ledebour, Social Democratic leader, said: “If the German emperor urgently advised Emperor, Nicholas In 1905 no longer to oppose the justified demands of the people, why did not the chancellor venture to £ive the same advice to Emperor William? We regard a republic as ft. coming inevitable development in Germany. * "History now is marching with sevenleague boots. The German people, indeed, show incredible patience. The reichstag must have the right to a voice in the conclusion of alliances, peace treaties and declarations of war. The Imperial chanoelldr must be dismissed when the reichstag demands it.” Shouts'of "High treason!" Interrupted Herr Ledebour, and the president called him to order. ^ GERMAN-AMERICANS BALK.

Little Stories of Daily Life
A Child's Faith. Although the car was near the end of the Ilnfe, all the seats were still filled when a woman entered/. At once a small girl of four slid down from her seat beside her mother and offered her place.- The woman hesitated, but as the child’s mother urged her. she accepted the offer. Because the child was so young the Incident attracted the attention of the passengers. .It was the usual evening carful of folks—tired And apathetic looking. But many kept their eyes on the child. Boon, at a stop, when everything was quiet, the little girl lifted her arms toward the straps which hung far above her. Her mother said sympathetically: “You can’t reach them yet, can ybu, Dearie?”" Then such a wonderful smile beamed upon her face—oh, so full of sure faith in the short years that lay between her and those stranpsl—as she answered ih a voice that rang. "Not yet.", . And the eyes of the onlookers grew bright or moist as they thought of the varied possibilities fof those years before the child. But one of that company, at least, opened her heart to the childish faith and was a better woman because of it. Three Beans in Change. A lean, seedy-looking, thirsty man walked into a saloon the other day and somewhat hesitatingly ordered refreshments. When the barkeeper hdd filled the order, his patron reached into a pocket and questioningly deposited a large Irish, potato as payment. “Yes, sir," said the barkeeper, withdrawing his hand from a peck measure' at the rear, "and here’s your three beans in change."

If* the garden is small, a hand syringe is sufilelent to guard It against the Invasion of the plant enemies. As for the spray solutions, these can be had already prepared and requiring only the addition of water to render them ready for use. j Bordeaux mixture is probably the > best ail-round fungicide. But It should I (mb tifti-d ns a preventive rather than as a cure. In ather words, spray bei fore disease appesra. Bordeaux, used j ia time, will prevent rot, rust nnd j similar fungus diseases. Many gar- . deuers apply it regularly every eight or tpm day*. It can be bad In a con- * venient paste form* An ounce of this f paste to one gallon of water makes n effective solution. Another excellent spray Is made from the Bordeaux-arsenate of lead mixture. This Is both a fungicide and Insecticide, and is also to he had ia the paste form. Three ounces to the gallon of water is the usual formula followed ia using it. No better general spray to protect the plants against both disease and Insect* is known. . Other poisons, too, are to be had. There are the various nicotine soln- / 4 lions, lor example, and m «lumber p$
