TOWNSHIP H10H SCHOOL BUHHEB TiSHiKEltS' IDEAS OF MEDICINE.
Hr* at Broad Ripple Canaea »«erlotts iKMia.
The Washington township higi-school building at Broad Ripple was btfmd to the ground last night. The fire »as first noticed in the roof about 8 o'clock. The Jiuilding was a two-story brick, situated Just outside the southeastern ccrporat-on line of the suburb. It was known as town-
ship school So. 5. There 1* no fire appa- ____ ^ ratus In the suburb, although the Town . . .. Board has had something of the kind un- them^v«
Ber consideration for months. There is a bucket brigade, or volunteer force, organised to light fire with ladders and pails of water. The building was too high for available ladders, and the ftr« had such a start that nothing could be done with It. People opened the doors ahd carried out the township library and a few desks from the lower rooms, then watched the building burn and crumble until midnight. They kept an eye also on neighboring houses and barns, as the sparks filled the air. The building was erected about ten years ago, while George W. Baneastei was township trustee, and It cost 18,000. The contractors had Just finished putting a 11,000 furnace In the basement. The
building was well insured.
There seems to be no other explanation of the fire than that it was Incendiary, although It Ls not known why the fire-bugs Should go to the roof to start the flame. Therg are no wood fires near to send out sparks and the building was about two blocks from any Slonon locomotives that pass. Township trustee O. J. Pursell Is in a quandary. It will be months before another building can be completed and at first sight there does not appear to be My other building available In the neighborhood. R. C. Light said thit he was going to tender the use . of the Park ^^[ a 1 ' t house

There was a bright light in the northwest section of the city last night, and people were not Jong in surmising that it was the plant of the old Western Chemical Company again. They were right. Che plant now belongs to the Mica Roofing Company 'and It is there where the blocks for the city streets are oreosoted. The manager, P. C. Reilly, is out of the city and his representative this morning knew little about the Causes and effects. He pad not yet seen the night-watchman, who was the first to discover the fire. There is a hydrant on the company’s grounds, also chrisfi one at the ail mills near by. The Indian- .eward. •polls and Haughvllle fire departments goL there with hose and by means of water
