At9 o'clock the banquet was served in Agricultural Hall. Pivate Secretary Roberts was toast-master. After the last course he introduced Governor Chase, who responded to the toast "The State oflndisna." 'the Governor delivered an eulogy on the State, aud in closing said; "Indiana has just reason to be proud oi her citizen soldiery. Th* trial of Mrs. Mary Craft, th* woman who left the Brasil baby on th# steps of the Excelsior laundry, was called this morning. She was unable to appear. The State’s witnesses told their story as has been published. A number of witnesses for the detense testified to Mr*. Cralt s good, moral character aud tno tact that she was hot at times responsible lor her actious. Judge Buskirk intimated that the contradictory stories she had told when arrested were very much against her and asked that she bo brought into court.
