TUX SECOND THOMAS CONCERT.
Jfo Httrh O C*n Fleane, Bat TbomM Can PI»m« and B»n« flf.
The •eeond of tho ionea of three coneerU to bo ciTeii boro tbie eeoeon by the Tboauu orcbeetro will ocear next Wedooe* d*y •roniog. It »» to bo hoped th»t tho nodest monoer io which these concert* are hermldod ^ili not interfere with the recognition of their •operiority. Now that ho has non secured by Chicaeo, the proximity of Indianapolis has enabled Thomas not onlv to jrivo this city such an annual series of concerts, bat to do so with a much larger and stronger orehestra than he found it profitable to take with him on hie long Western trips from New York, llisbellersd that tbs influences wh.ch hare permitted this enterprise of Chicago hare been at work bare also, and that these concerts Will, indeed, bo an annnai occurrence. Mr. Thomas will probably do now for Chicago and tho adjoining cities wnat be did for New York and adjacent towns—cuitivate them to the appreciation of the wonders which bars been expressed in orohestral mnsic. He has already done this lor Indianapolis, with his usual tact and *. discrimination. At the first concert be repeated some numbers which he gare at the last Festifai, realizing that a secoi.d bearing would assist in furnish ng appreciation. The enthusiasm daring the entire concert was immense. At tha coming concert he repeats, JiKewise, the Tannerhaoser overture. But it will take time. the hundreds wno are teaching and studying music serous) T in Indianapolis and vicinity, buta •mail proport.on were in attendance at the - last concert. The chief benefit of going to Germany to study music comes from the more frequent opportunity there offered of hearing good music. A muaic student will fail proportionately ^ as be dispenses with the hearing of good mnsic. Let a tenor with a high f! be announced and the attendance will be crush- *• . Ins and the applause prodigious. Yet it Is impossible for a high (J to afiord enjoyment. These Thomae concert* famish enjoyment and what is more, benefit. T >e entire program of the next concert will be within the appreciation of all. AN JCX-CONVK'T’H AIM'KAL. V .. .

Quotes Horton.
Wiiiiftib France, releaaed from the Michigau City p«nit«ntiarv October & last, writes the following letter to The New* from Haltlmore, touching a well-known criminal
•nd criminal ca*e here:
In addreMing this letter to you for publication, it ts witb the purpose and belief that it may help to obtain justice lor an Innocent man. Yon doubtless remember the capture and trial of the Horton-Reinhold gang of burglar* In your city la*t summer, and the
- conviction of all. -
You also remember one of the member* of •aid gang named John Patterson, who was •emenOoato seven years In the Michigan City penitentiary, from which institution I have
recently been releaaed.
Now, the matter I wteh to speak of la in relation to Patterson. During my imprisontnent I became acquainted with one Horton, the supposed leader oi the gang just mentlonsd, and on one occasion conversed with him on the subject of hie trial. Dunnk our , conversation he IHortonj mado this remark, •‘‘I am only sorry lor poor Patterson, for he is an innocent man. Hut 1 had to do something tosavemyseli, and I am gstting old. 1 did not think it would so that hard with him"
(moaning Patterson.)
In thinking over this since my release, I have come to tho conclusion that.lt was mv duty as a man and lor the sake of his poor mother to tell this, ^hoping it might be of some benefit to an innocent man, for such
v Horton declared him to be.
In conclusion, I only wish to state that I am not a resident of your city, nor of Indiana, tror am I in any way acquainted with Patter- ' eou, except by eight, he having been pointed
out to the one day !u priaon.
From what I could learn, his family are in poor circumstances, and ‘that Impels me to apeak what 1 know, as they may bo suffering as much, it not more, than he irom the Injust-
ice.
ToUtreon’s reputation is wholly bad, and this appeal will not arouae the sympathy of the public; but France’s plea is to be investigated to tea bow juatice can further ba served, FENNIOXN FOIl VETKUANS. v Real den te of Indiana Whose Claims Hava Bean Allowed.
