The meeting of the Indian* Jeraer Cattle Y Breeders’ Aeeociation et Horticultural Hall to-day in the State Hone* is the first a series *f meetings that hare an important bearing on the agricultural and stockbreeding interests of the State. Following the Jersey cattle producer* eome the State Dairymen’* Association tomorrow, the Bee-Keeper*’ Association Jan- ! nary 8 and 9, the Cane-Growers January 13, ! thE Trotting and Pacing Horse Breeders January 15, the Shorthorn Breeders January 19 and 20, the Wool-Growers January • 20 and 21, the Swine-Breeders January 21 and 22, the Poultry Association Jan uary 22 •tc., ate. , - The breeders of the garelle-ered Jersey were somewhat alow this morning in getting their faces together, owing to an apparent misunderstanding as to the time of meeting. President Godman called the meeting together at 11 o’clock long enough to sector* an adjournment until 2 o’clock this
afternoon.
Tbia afternoon the attendance was more satisfactory. President Godman addressed the association briefly, congratulating it . upon the progress made, upon the general apward tendency in the grade of all classes cf stock. The reports of officers were presented and discussed. Several interesting
papers were read a* follow:
"Jersey Cattle and Their Owners,” Mrs.
Laura V. Worley, Kllettsville.
"The Jersey Cow,” T. H. Kauffman, of Elk-
bavv
"Milk and Butter," Prof. C. 8. Plumb, of
Purdue. .
"The fAtlook.” Mrs. Kate M Basic.
It will be sten that women in Indiana have taken conspicuous places in every occupation, including agriculture and its kVffdred branches. Mrs. Meredith, Mrs. Worlay and Mrs. Kusio are names on the programs that will attract more attention
than tha names of any three men.
Tn response to a call marie at a meeting of Indiana Jersey breeders, held at the Fremont House, Chicago, November 16, the committee appointed at that meeting met , at the Coulter House at Frsukforf, Decern-
• ber 30.
> The purpose of these meetings was the furtherance of the Jersey interests in Indiana in eogDtftion with the World’s Fair. At that meeting Mrs. H. M. Baum was •ailed to tha chair, and H. 11. Godman nan
made secretary.
In »iew of the fact that the annual meet- • ing of the State association was near at baud, It was-denided to refer the following resolutions, introduced by D. II. Jenkins, * ' to that body and defer any further action
Until that meeting:
Resolved, That wt heartily indorse and approve the action of the American Jersey ( stile Club and the work ol its efficient committee in securing worthy representative Jersey
cows for the Columbian Fair,
Resolved, That the Indiana Htate Jersey Breeders' Association oiler Hs assistance in a Still hunt for some of the finest cows known - to the brotherhood in Indiana, and be it
further
Resolved, That a committee of three, eonelstlng of 8. II. Godman. II. M. Baum and Hsinuel McKeen, be appointed to carry out
the above plan.
The above resolutions when presented this afternoon were unanimous! v adopted. The report of E. J. Howland and D. II. Jeukins, who were appointed to audit the books and revise the constitution, was pre-
sented and apuroved.
*It is a fact worthy of further note that two of the most enthusiastic and successful Jersey cattle brsedrrs of Indiana nro .women, Mrs. Laura D. Worley, of Elliottsvifle, and Mrs. Kate Busich, of Wabash. The. latter is the secretary of the association; Each boasts a herd of about forty representatives of the Jersey stock of the
bluest blood.
Mrs. Busich told a News reporter this toiorning that the efforts of the Jersey breeders had had a marked effect on Indiana stock during the pael few years. This w«s especially noticeable in the dairy iui dustry. At ber home in Wabash, she *aid, there had been a general infusion of Jersey blood. As a marked result of this, the operator of the dairy at Wabash raported that he was able to produce a lialf pound more butter to the hundred pounds of milk than any other dairy-keeper in Indiana. Farmers, she -said, were realising the advantage of this Improvement in stock, ami the demand for Jerseys was greatsr than ever before. The superiority of the,Jerseys over alt other cattle -for dairy purposes was now thoroughly established, and the result was that , - HoUteiiiSj Shorthorns and Hereford* are being displaced wherever cattle are being
raixed for da ry purposes.
. Mrs. Busich s»'d. further, that the use of the eeparator has caussd a revolution in the dairy business, aince by its use dairy keepers are able to realise from 10 to 15 per cent, more butter and cream from their milk thau when the pans were set away for the cream to rise. The Jersey breeders ad-
journed this evening. I'lisap Advsrttsing.
