John Haehl claims to have been elected committeeman for the first precinct of third ward, and will dispute the position with Jesse Dellaven. There is a good deal of ill feeling against the latter. The land was bought from the state, and is not especially valuable. Francis Smith has filed suit against Horace R. Allen, claiming $15,000, as his percentage growing out <>f the sale of lands in Arkansas, to an English syndicate, he having, as alleged, been promised one-third of the profits. The complaint states tiiat the defendant realized $38,750 by the venture, of which his share should have been $1 Jennings Price, Frank Creel man’s colored coachman, has been committed for embezzlement, Mr. Creelman making the charge, Tho complainant reports his total loss at Price’s hands at about seventy-five dollars, and claims that he only drew the Hue when the defendant stole his prize bull pup. which had been given by admiring friends in Baltimore. Saturday he was found dead near the roadside a few miles from town. He had considerable money, and, it is supposed he was followed, waylaid, robbed and murdered. A heavy bruise and indentation in the back of the head, as from a club, is the only mark of violence tound.

The monthly union ministers meeting was held at Christ church this morning. Dr. Day presiding. Tbe subject for consideration was “Preaching for the Times,” Dr. Jeffery leading, and it was discussed at length by the various gentlemen, the general opinion expressed being that the preaching that was most needed was that which was devoid of sensational features, and that which taught gospel truths, in an earnest, forcible and intellectual manner. Spurgeon was held up as the model preacher of the day. Tbe special committee, consisting of Jtevs. Hendrickson, McConnell and Neighbors, reported the iollowing cony of the city ordinance regarding the display of improper pictures, and

the accompanying resolutions:

An ordinance declaring h to be a nuisance to fc xhibit indecent, dia,listing, revolting or louthome prints, pictures or engravings. Enacted

Section I. Every person who shall cause, sufhtr or permit Indecent, dlsgu-ting, revolting or loathsome prints, pictures or engravings to be exhibited or exposed to view in any open space, or iu any window of any premises by sucli person owned, controlled or occupiel, shall be deemed

The next monthly meeting will be held at Meridian-street Ml E. church, the subject lor discussion being “The Relation of the Churchea to the Charities ot the City.” Mrs. Kits Assaults H jr Hiraband. The domestic infelicities of Eynest Kitz and wife led to her arrest late Saturday night for assault upon her husband and peace disturbance, and she remained at the police station until yesterday afternoon, when, by depositing her own jewelry, she was released. She then sought shelter at 8t. Vincent's hospital, and the vases against her were conttoued to-day in the city court upon a telephone message that she was too ill to attend. Her arrest was made by Patrolmen Hurt and Ward, who witnessed tbe assault, which seems to nave occurred in the open street. It was alleged that the waa over-indulging in intoxicants, but this charge does not figure upon tbe slate, .and the woman claims that Mr. Kitx became enraged liecause the ironically addressed him as “Mr. Trustee,*’ whereupon she screamed ami ■truck at him with her sacbel, but did not ait him. The incident will (piite likely preSipitate a divorce suit, which, it is iindernood. Captain Kitz had heretofore contem-

Saturday afternoon aud evening the centsal medical college played the host to visiting delegations, including the teachers and pupils of Union high school, Hamilton county, and the oullege at Lebanon. It was an intellectual as well as a social affair, with lectures by Dr. R. E.
