At Boston, a corset factory on Washington street, belonging to Mrs. Charlotte Adame, $20,000. At Helena, Arkansas, a large portion of the town. Tbe Pacific Hotel at Mansfield, Ohio, $13,000; two guests are missing. Yesterday, the residence of J. J. Manor, at Toledo. On Washington street, Boston, $75,000. At Portland, Oregon, three blocks of building, $350,000; the entire town was in imminent danger. NEW YORK CITY. Barnaul'* Menagerie Burned—Tbe Fink Avenue Botai Fire Inquest—The Tri bane Sale—Etc. New Yobx, December 24.—The jury en gaged in the inquest upon the bodies burned at the Fifth Avenne Hotel went out at ten o’clock last night and returned at two this A. m. They found that the servants came to their death under the following circumstances: The rooms occupied open on the corridor which is closed at both ends, and the means of egress were by way of a narrow platform staircase, built entirely of wood, up which the fire was burning. Small skylights and windowk open into each room ; the windows were closed. The jury further find that the proprietors of the hotel gave orders to facilitate the escape of the inmates in order to preserve their lives, and further recommend that the Fire Commissioners be requested to immediately inspect every hotel in this city in orter to prevent g recurrence of a like calamity. The Times this morning contains a revelation of a startling scheme alleged to be arranged by the friends of Duryea, the man murdered by Simmons, on Monday of last week to avenge the victim’s death. It is stated that Simmons was removed from Park Hospital last night under extraordinary circumstances. A number of Duryea’s mends have banded themselves into a Vigilance Committee for tbe purpose of lynching Simmons. The police received information of the proceedings and immediately placed a strong force at Park Hospital. Simmons was removed to Bellevue Hospital for greater safety. Tbe police decline to give any particulars regarding the affair, though it is stated that they are fully satisfied that such a plot was arranged, and that the removal of Simmons last night was the means of their defeat During a conversation yesterday, Wm. Orton, President of the Western Union Telegraph, said the report that be had sold fiftyone shares of Tribune stock to Whitelw Reid was sc near the truth that he did not think best to correct it. The carriage factory of Minor & Stevenson, 13th street, wm nearly half destroyed. The losses can scarcely be approximated at pfSsent. Barnum s loss is estimated at $300,000. The animals destroyed are invalvaluable as they can not be replaced. Four giraffes alone cost 80,000, and Mr. Barnum expended $50,000 on the building a few months ago. He is heavily insured. Mr. Barnum is

Sioux Citt, December 24.—Tue mall earner between Fort Sally and Grand River, whose name is Robbins, wm fired upon yesby a party of Indians when near the latter place, but escaped unhurt. A party afterwards went in pursuit of the Indians, when they took to the bluffs and ware soon lost in the ravines. The Indians are becoming very troublesome in that vicinity. NEW YORK.

Brooklyn, December 24.—Henry Zeigler, a German aged thirty-three years, residing in New York, went to visit his brother last evening, at 22 West Fourteenth street, where he drank freely. A quarrel arose and one of the party, named Weir, drew a dirk and stabbed Zeigler in the left side, when the m sailant fled. Zeigler bled to death before medical assistance arrived. Weir has not yet been arrested.
