It further appears that a copy vt the letter.read In the Senate with one sentence omitted, ^ being so seat from the Interior Department, was a copy which had been so prebgWd bj an attorney in the case, and filed m tire Interior Department with the rest of the records.' Of coarse, this went to the Stonkte with tbe rest as part of the papers in the case, and it is regarded as strange that the attorney’s selections should hare been chosen when’making up a collection for the prilfter. It is further true that the order of the Senate nnder which the selections made were.printed applied to all papers sent up by Setmtor Wilson, with t^e concurrence of a number of his associates, will to-morrow offer his amendment, in place of Bingham'a reciting thai, in consequence of the illegal and revolutionary proceedings of, the General Assembly df Georgia, it be declared to have bCen provisional in its character, and shall date from the passage of this act and continue till tbe persons elected in November, 1872, are qualified. The President went to the Capitol to-day with Generals- Babcock and Porter, and sent for sixteen Senators in succession to confer with him HI the President's room. Whether it be more eriiqjBal to sell what belongs to you for tbe benefit,of others, or to sell what is the property of othwf for the sole aggrandizement of yourse^ I leave for - statesmen to decide. It matters little, so fhr as the effect upon the public service is concerned, whether the price bt gold, honesty, or ftmale virtue. It eats down into tbe system with the same cankering, damning force But nowhere does the fearful political spectre stalk more unblushingly and unchallenged than in the city of Washington, Not one in ten of the four thousand places here but what is biennially sold for what it will bring. In the caw of tbe female appointments, it is too often at the sacrifice of all that is dear to womanhood. So notorious has this become that the ‘Treasury girl'’ is synonymous with “doabtfal,’’ and a term of reproach. From time to time some have taken the lives of their paramour*, some committed suicide and buried their wrongs with them, while many are annually discharged, to morp openly continue their lives of shame. The majority, of course, are of the nobler type of womanhood, compelled to toil among and suffer in silence the contaminating influence of official eyprianism. A bill has been introduced for tbe abolition ef female employe!. When the National Treaffiry is known as the ‘’National Hasem,'’ it is high

time it be made the eut>)ect of inquiry.

Present advices from Virginia indicate a thorough reorganization of the distracted partisan .elements in that State on a square Republican basis. This unhoped for remit is chiefly owing to tbe earnest efforts of Senator Lewis. Hon. C. H. Porter and a few others, the former being mainly .instrumental in bringing about the meeting of the several State Central Committees. That the general conference of tbe prominent leaders, respectively, appointed for the sixth proyimo. wHt be harmonious, there is little doubt among the delegates now in this city. Indeed, there is no reason why the contrary should be the case, since the cause of original separation has become a dead issue. Their last election returned but three genuine Republicans out of eight. In the next election, unanimity is

success as certainly as division is defeat.

There is noprospect of a vote on the Georgia bill in the Senate this week. In the mean time tbe conservative Republicans are making some headway in correcting the misrepresentions made against them by outside parties here. It was shown to-day that telegrams •eptffom Georgia, pretending to give tbe news of the Conserratm press of that State, had been garbled and distorted so as to reverse tbeir -comments ou the pending bill. It has always been the rule not to pay the heirs of a soldier for the day On which he died. Why the Stanton fatally should receive a year’s salary more than was earned, can be accounted for only on the bibl ical maxim, “Unto him that hath shall he given and unto him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.” With such a precedent before us, we may look for an increase in the pensioning of public men, so offensive to t he principles of a republican government.
