Wc take the following account of the Tennessee t onservative Convention, held at Nashville on Tuesday last, from the telegraphic correspondence of the Cincinnati ('ommercialAs will lie seen the account diller* materially from that published in the Associated t’rcss

dispatches:

The Conservative Convention met at eleven o'clock to-day in the hail of the House of Jiepresentatives. Every county was represented. There were a number of colored delegates, who took their seats on the lioor with the wlntes, and the audience in the galleries was composed about e< pi ally of whites and Macks. Every county and town in the State was represented, anil the delegates represented the ••wealth and intelligence” of the State ipiite

as fully as any ever held here.

The convention was called to order hv Judge tiaxter, of Knoxville, a straight-out Unionist, and the following otlieers were chosen. President—Elijah Walker,of Hardin eninty. Vice President—A. J. Uonclsou, Austin Mil-

ler and Jesse II. Gant.

These flgures show that while the valuation of real and personal property in the Sti^e for the years 1K0T» and 1*60 was only about twice a« much as the assessment in 1' < ">i>, the taxation in 1*05 was nearly live times, and In ise.r, about four times more than In IS.'itl. These figures**,est Illustrate the contrast between Republican and Democratic taxation. That th> re may be no chance for dodging, wo give the aggregate amount of the anessment levied upon the Grand Duplicates for the years named: • Total for the year 1*56,l)emocratie.$27!»,o:! >.20fi “ •■ “ 1665,Republican. .v:.,:i*l,.v.3 “ “ “ 1800 “ r.7S,4*4,10!l The Journal says that the levy In 1WMJ, for defraying the general expenses of the State government, was twenty-five cents on each one hundred dollars oi taxable property, and seventy-live cents on each poll, producing a revenue of 151,002,657.80, ami then t uurges that thirteen Democratic counties levied mere in 1 silti for local purposes than the whole revenue raised for the general expenses of the •state government in the same year. Admitting this to be true, can not this enormous taxation be justly attributed to the effect or result of Republican legislation and tinanciering? And if the taxation in a few Democratic counties for local purposes the past year was enormous, wer* there not equal burdens in Republican counties? Here is the aggregate amount of local taxation in thirteen Republican eounties, with tho number of voters and the amount assessed in e tch:
